I have my first lecture exam on Monday. It covers chapters 1-4, which is basically intro to A&P:body regions, directional terminology, chemistry review, cells, and Histology. Is anyone else at the same point in A&P? An online study group would be great. I would appreciate links to any good sites for these topics too. Thanks.
I'm not sure how we should set a study group up, some have mentioned IMing, (which sounds great but you'll have to tell me how to do it exactly). If you have experience, or just some ideas let me know. I was thinking we could just each post a couple of questions for everyone to try and answer, kind as a review/pretest, (at least for now). Also if anyone is having any trouble understanding a concept they could just ask, and everyone can try to explain it to them.Since some are still working toward their first test. Why don't we all post 2-3 introductory questions and see how it goes. Then we can start working on the bones/integement in a couple of days.
Everyone who can please answer, and then post (at least) a couple of your own. Thanks! (and good luck with your tests).
The study of structual changes caused by disease are what branch of Anatomy?
pathophysiology
The abdominopelvic cavity is separated from the superior thoracic cavity by what?
diaphragm
What organs are located in the lower left quadrant?
part of the colon?
Electrons are found in what part of an atom?
outside of the nucleus (in electron shells?)
If an element has an atomic number of 12 and a mass number of 6, how many electrons and neutrons does it have?
12 protons, -6 neutrons? If the atomic number was 6 and atomic mass 12, then there would be 6 electrons and 6 neutrons.
Are hydrogen bonds weak or strong? why?
weak, although I am not sure why.

carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen
What composes the majority of the plasma membrane?
phospholipids
Is osmosis passive or active transport?
passive
What kind of diffusion happens when substances move through protein carriers or channel proteins?

transitional epithelium
Where is the nucleus of the cell located in adipose tissue?

Hi chicagoing
I have to tell that in the question "The study of structual changes caused by disease are what branch of Anatomy" you gave the wrong answer. Even though we may think it's almost the same your answer was the one that study the structural changes by diseases in the branch of physiology. What I mean is that you have to read carefully the question. The answer would be Pathological Anatomy. I hope you don't see it as criticism or anything. I actually don't know how can I say it nicely.
About the other questions...I haven't checked them yet. But about the location of the organs in the LLQ I would say part of the small intestine, descending colon, sigmoid colon, and urinary bladder. There is also the left ureter, but I’m not sure if we need to mention that. If I’m missing any please tell me so. I’m just using my general knowledge to answer the questions. About the... Electrons are found in what part of an atom? I 'd say on the outermost shell. I believe that the chat would be awesome to discuss our opinions about the answers. So I hope we can see each other there. Good luck. Yisel :)
Thanks. Our class has not covered the definition of pathological anatomy. As for saying it nicely..if all you are doing is making a factual correction, then I see your comment as being neutral with a friendly slant.
I just took a shot since no one else had answered any questions. I was just answering them with my own general knowledge.
I don't even think I read that question correctly since I am dead tired and in need of a nap.
I think mixing both ideas is great! People who can't necessarily make the chat times can post and answer questions posted on this thread... (which will help future students too by being archived on this site) and we can also meet in the chat room for live chats when y'all pick. What do y'all think?
Good idea mjmoon! If everyone can post some times they are available for a chat room style online study group we can make a time to do that too, then post a couple of questions on here and answer some of the others. That way anyone can participate at anytime.
At 9:30pm (whatever day, maybe one day each week) works well for me. I could also do early afternoon like anytime between 12:30-2:00 most days. Do either of these times work for any of you? We'll sort of majority rule style pick so let me know what works best for all of you.
For the member interested in getting into the chat. I'm available almost everyday at almost any hour. I only have class on Tuesdays & Saturday mornings. So you can come at anytime after that. I WILL be needing some HELP with the chat room since I am supposedly the owner ('cause I created it) but I will need at least two more people with an easy schedule to moderate the site along with me. I mean, the site shouldn't be empty at almost any time so you will always find someone to help you if you get into it. Besides you will need a moderator to make you a member. After you are a member you can come at anytime without needing a moderator. So I kind of need two volunteers to help me with this.
One more thing...today after 6:30 pm (I live in Miami) I won't be on the chat...just until 11 pm maybe. I have a birthday party, but after that you can come at any time to the chat. Remember we are still making arrangements and stuffs for the better functioning of the chat, so be patient.
Hi guys I was thinking that we may use a chat room to discuss this subjects....I just created one in AnatomyandPhysiology_Study_Group chat group - This is an online study groupThis is a private chat room and only members are allowed. You may have to create an account to access the site, but it's free. Then let me know your user names and I will add you. I hope this will help...we may have to set certain hours to meet...I don't know..Ideas are welcome.
Great idea yisy4u!
I've signed in with my username. Everyone please give it a try, so we're all familiar with it and then we'll set up a time to meet.

I started this thread for a study group and I'd love to help you with it but my schedule is very hectic. I would be happy to help you moderate or whatever you need but I'm only available at limited times.

The study of structual changes caused by disease are what branch of Anatomy?
chicagoing was close. Pathological anatomy is the answer. Can anyone name two other specialized branches of anatomy?
Electrons are found in what part of an atom?
this one's tricky,I should have worded it better. So far the answers have certainly not been wrong, but they aren't quite what what I was looking for. hint: The Bohr model is often used to describe electrons instead of this because it is easier to draw etc... but electrons are actually moving around in an electron ______.
Are hydrogen bonds weak or strong? why?
Chicagoing is right they are weak. Does anyone know why?
Good job Chicagoing. I think you got most of them right. Do you have any questions for us to answer?
I'll post the all of the answers tommorow, so everyone please chime in and give us your opinion on the answers! And don't forget to post some questions of your own!
2 other branches of anatomy are regional and systemic.
electrons are found in orbitals.
hydrogen bonds are strong intermolecular forces, but very weak compared to intramolecular forces like ionic bonds and covalent bonds. They are the strongest of the intermolecular forces, the weakest are dispersion forces, then dipole dipole in the middle. The occur when H on one molcule is attracted to F, O, or N on another molecule. So, for instance, in water, the Hs on one molecule are attracted to the O on another. It is what makes water so cohesive, but of course not nearly as strong as the bonds that hold the HOH of the actual molecule together.
