Is there anyone else out there who is currently studying for the CCRN exam and would like to start a thread as perhaps a study and support group? I have just applied for the exam and have not yet set a date, but about in 3 months is when I will be taking it. I would love to be in communication with others in the same boat! I hope there is at least one other nurse out there! Thanks!

Just received my AACN newsletter this week. Did anyone else notice they are changing the test plan for CCRN later this year? I'll be interested to see what changes.

Oh gosh, when?

Oh gosh, when?

From the AACN website: "The CCRN Item Writing Committee met in January to write items for the adult, pediatric and neonatal exams based on the new CCRN Test Plan developed from results of the 2008 Critical Care Study of Practice. The new test plan will be made public in Fall 2009; changes in the test forms will occur in early 2010."

:yeah::up: GOOD FOR YOU! Wasn't it a grand feeling to walk out of there with that piece of paper in your hand?

I do agree that if I just looked at the Dr Laura Gasparis Vonfrolio DVD's I wouldn't have passed, but I used them in conjuction with the NTI 2007 Audio CCRN review and using the PASS CCRN CD.

Ok, I guess I should stop procrastinating then...

I found the Laura CDs very useful for reinforcing concepts that I already had a good grasp on...having said that it also pointed out what I di not know and made me jump in a bit deeper. We had a great study group going and people brought in burned CDs from multiple sources with practice exams on them...we made photocopies of one another's flashcards...and a number of us went to Cammy House Francher's seminar. With all of those things, most of us scored 100% in 5 plus categories. It was not an easy exam. PCCN was much easier...CSC was as difficult and CMC was harder for me. I made it through each of them though. If you are going to do CMC or CSC the discs that are sold by AACN were not that useful to me. You need outside resources. PCCN was far less intense than CCRN.

Hi All,

I am scheduled to take my CCRN test mid July. I am using LGV DVD and review book, and will start soon with the Pass CCRN DVD questions once Im done with the LGV review book. Just wanna know how you guys review for the test. I work 4 days a week and have hardly reserved energy to study when I get home or prior to leaving for work. Do you just study during your days off?

I did some questions from the CD most nights. I also had the LGV tapes, so I had them on in my car and by the time I took the tests, I knew the tapes off by heart!

About a month before my exam, I did practice questions every day. Some days I just picked "quiz mode" which just gave you 10 questions at a time. If you are short on time, just do a few sets of those. But doing a whole exam was helpful as well. It gets you in the mode of using your brain for long periods of time. I made notes on the rationales/stratagies of questions I missed during practice and would look over those notes whenever I had a free minutes: during kids swim practice, waiting in carpool line, etc.

I've started studying for the CCRN (yeay!) but haven't set a date yet. I've really just started looking at Hematology/Immunology. I've been listening to the David tapes, and have done well on his practice questions. But then I did some other practice questions and didn't do very well. I'm planning on borrowing the Laura tapes from a coworker soon, but until then... how much do I really need to know? Do I need to know which cytokines are responsible for the maturation of B cells?? I'm not stressing out so much as I'm worried I'm going to oversaturate my brain and forget things I actually use in clinical practice...

Any advice?

Hopefully I can start studying for the PCCN in 2 weeks after I take my daughter to college..being an emptynester will give me lots of time!
