Anyone else on the dreaded waiting list?

I"m so happy to find this site!

I've been on the waiting list for nursing school since Feb of 2004. I expect my # will finally come up in 9/06 at the current rate. Every semester there are 30-50 spots open and they've gone through about 100 names on the list to fill those spots. Between my prereqs, and the constant changing of those prereq requirements, I feel like I've been working on this forever! Well, I have I guess. So long that I have to retake the miserable A&P class because it's been over 10 years since I took it last.

The waiting list has been hard. I'm 31 and trying to plan my family around when I *might* start school. Not easy, since I have infertility problems & recurring miscarraiges. I feel like I'm losing my mind right now becuase next month is the very last cycle we can get pg before I be pregnant when I start school. I'm such a mess!

I'm wondering if anyone else is or has gone through the same thing, or is just waiting indefinately for that magic # to come up? I keep wondering how other people live their life around this wait. So much can happen in life in the space of 2+ years!

Yes, I have been on the waiting list for 2 years. I did however find out that I can strat this January- finally! I have all my prereq's done, and they are allowing me to take pharmacology ahead of time so at least I have something to do this semester.

All the power to you both for being patient. I truly wish you the best of luck and hopefully your # will be called soon. :)

Achoo!, congrats. I am awaiting to find out if I got in or not too. I am a hopeful Jan starter too.

I just want to wish you good luck on planning your family. Have faith and it will happen. I do understand what you are saying about planning your life around this waiting period. I just got put on the waiting list last month. They said my chances "MAY" LOOK good for fall of 06 or maybe longer. I want to have another child but I feel I have to wait until i am finished with school completly and I will be 36 when I am done. So if it does not work out in the time you want it too, it will come when it is meant to be. You are only 31 so you do have time. Oh by the way I am taking A&P for my first time and I don't know how I will survive this semester, I heard it was a lot, but this is overwhelming to me. Don't give up, you are almost there!! :)

Hi and welcome to Allnurses.com! :)

Good luck on your waiting list! We don't have one, we have to apply each time, if we don't get in. Either way, it could be a long waiting game. :(

I'll find out sometime by October 15th if I start for January, or if I have to apply again to be a Fall '06 hopeful. :crying2: I too have all of my pre-reqs & my non-nursing courses complete. Now, I'm working on the RN-BSN core classes because I am determined to get my ADN, pass the NCLEX, become an RN, then finish my last 4 RN-BSN classes if not already finished, then go on for my BSN, maybe a year after I graduate.

Achoo! Good luck!

Good luck to us all! :)

Thanks Jess! I am hoping to get in the campus closer to home, but regardless, I am in. Hope you get good news soon!

I'm on the waiting list to start in Spring of '07 but everyone here says that students are constantly getting in earlier...so i'm hoping for this spring or fall *crosses fingers*

Good luck SCAngel. Yes, I can see how you can get in earlier. Some people have to get jobs, move, have children, etc, and by the time they get accepted, they may not be able to make that leap at that time.

So, in that case, if one can't take their time, do they get put back onto the waiting list for the next semester? I'm not sure how a waiting list works.

Thanks hun!! i need all the luck i can get! lol

at my school they send you a letter about a month or two before the actual semester starts and you can accept the seat or post pone it...you are only allowed to post pone your seat once then you have to reaply for the program

Fun2Care that's how ours used to be. It was MADDENING! I'd just finish the prereqs they required and be ready to apply, then they'd change them so I'd have to take another class. Then they didn't have a wait list. At least now they do! I hope you get accepted soon.

SCAngel you can postpone! You don't know how happy you just made me! I'll have to find out if we can do the same, I always thought you just had to start back on the wait list at the beginning. I'm going to call today and find out if ours lets us do the same. It's not what I want to do, but it would sure relieve some of the stress I'm feeling this month.

hello everyone:

i believe we all have to deal with our share of waiting. i am from california, where there are 2 yr waiting list, and i decided to move to las vegas and go to nursing school. there was only a 1-2 semester waitlist in vegas. so it just depends on how bad do you want to become a nurse. personally, i just cant put my life on hold for 2yrs. i should be starting unlv's bsn program this spring. it is a 16 mth, year-round program after pre-reqs. california's bsn programs are 3yrs after pre-reqs. go figure.
