Anyone with effective HA remedies?

I have been getting more and more headaches lately (a few a day), and I'm running out of options.

Imitrex doesn't work, because they aren't migraines.

I've eliminated caffeine, exercising more, taking ibuprofen, recently switched to Ultram, which isn't really helping either. I'm talking pounding, nauseating, really painful frontal/occipital headaches (strangely the temporal area is unaffected).

So if anyone has any miraculous non-narcotic remedies, I'd love to hear them.

Thanks........:D

You can suffer rebound headaches from taking too many of any type of med. That is why I would say, if suffering this much, one may benefit from a visit to a neuro or ENT. Throwing meds at it really does not solve a chronic problem.

"honey not tonight I have a headache" That famous quote is no longer going to work. Darn it.

I have to agree that sex usualy works for my headaches which I believe are sinus, tension. I also take Excedrin Migraine ( same thing as reg. Excedrin ) DR. will tell you not to take due to rebound, but its about all that works for me. Hope your feeling better soon.

Here's a thought - constipation. It causes everything to bind up and puts pressure in wierd places and can cause ferocious headaches.

Every once in a while I get a really bad eye pounding....nausea inducing.....horrible headache. I take two plain 'ole asprin, vicks vapor rub on the chest and temples.....a huge glass of ice water and a long bubble bath w/ candles. Works every time........I agree w/ the eye exam thought.....if its been more than a year since your last exam....this could be the culprit!!!!!!!

Here is one that I have not seen mentioned. Massage! Yep. Sounds too simple to be true. You can do it yourself or have someone do it for you. A hand held massager works great. Massage all areas of your head. concentrate on your forehead, temples, and especially at the back of your head near the base of your scull and neck. Also pay any attention to areas that seem sore when you massage them. Or check out some reference information on accupressure points.

As far as medication goes. I think asprin works better that ibuprofen or tylenol for headaches. Flexeril may be a last resort.

Hope this helps!

ok...here's the number one remedy known to man. go to the nearest er. Tell them this is the worst headache you have ever had. Tell them you are allergic to asa, toradol, haldol, morphine, tylenol, phenergan, vistaril, motrin. then say, "but that drug that sounds like dem....demer....demerol? I can take that! and they usually give me 150 mg IM !" then see what the er nurses face looks like.

If I can't see it, smell it, feel it, taste it, or hear it.......it isn't there.

Have you ever tried Alternative Medicine, i.e. Chiropractic, Acupunture, and/or massage? I have worked in the area of chiropractic care for a while now and we see quite a few pt's with a dx of chronic HA'S and/or migraines. The success rate is quite high, in addition, you don't get the side affects that come with some otc drugs/or rx drugs. It's worth a shot! All the information you need is right at your fingertips. Just go to any search engine and plug in "alternative medicine" and "headaches".

Good Luck!

Thanks for all the input. I just had my eye prescription modified in November, so that's not it. I'm not too terribly stressed... and the neurologist I see was a bit more concerned with other issues my last appointment than my headaches. But I'll bring it up.

So far I've been taking lots of NSAIDs and sleeping. Which seems to be effective, but I can't sleep all the time, and I'd like to have a liver once my headaches subside.

I'll try the caffeine, I cut that out of my diet (er, with the exception of the V-day candy) because of my severe dysmenorrhea. Trying to see if that would help this month (oh, and it didn't... I was pretty much out of commission all day yesterday).

You could try putting a drop of pure lavender essential oil on your fingertips and massaging it into your temples and, also, massaging pure peppermint essential oil into the base of your hairline. Alternatively, you could make up a cream/lotion using the above two oils and massage that into your temples - number of drops = number of ml of base cream used. It works! Give it a go! :)

Ibuprofen 800 mg, an ice pack, and Afrin nose spray works every time but my headaches are mostly migraines.
