Has anyone appied and been accepted into the RN program at DBCC? If so what was your GPA? How were your NET scores?
Hi, I Got accepted into the ADN program at DSC but I was placed in the New Smyrna Campus and I was wondering if any of you guys going to the Daytona campus wants to switch with me since I do live in Daytona and it's gonna kill me with the gas money to get to New Smyrna EverydaySO If anyone can help...please do...thanks
SORRY I LIVE IN PIERSON, SO IT IS ALREADY A 40 MINUTE DRIVE FOR ME. I KNOW A FEW PEOPLE FROM DAYTONA GOING TO NEW SYMRNA, I THINK THEY DID IT SO THE MILEAGE IS FAR ON EVERYBODY.
GOOD LUCK!
DO YOU START CLASSES TOMORROW?
Ok guys, so her it goes....it was good and mind boggeling all at the same time. For anyone going to Daytona in the morning, the classroom was changed to 230 instead of 328. Everyone was super nice. My professor (Dichiara) is on leave for a few weeks so we will be having a sub. Tonight we had Mrs. Whitwam (who just so happens to be the lead instructor for 1021) If you have her, good for you - she was really nice. We went over the syllabus and handbook in depth so make sure you bring them to class. Also bring your skills bag because you will go through it all and make sure you have what you need. Believe it or not there were people in the class who were shorted some stuff so beware. They then will give you a calender for the rest of the semester with the due dates and tests schedules for everything we will be doing from now till December. It is a LOT. I know you've heard it all before but let me tell you - its a LOT. We have our first test next week ( I guess Thursdays for you guys in the AM) In fact for your Wed meeting you would have had to read chapters 2 and 12 so if you haven't started reading you better get on it. There are also some other projects that will need to be done througout the semester, one of which is due by the week of September 9th. I won't go into detail and spoil the 'fun'. Also, if you haven't gotten your stethoscope yet - I suggest you beg, borrow, or steal to get it because we start our first skills on vital signs tomorrow (Wed for you guys) and we are tested on it the following week. You need your scope!! There is a lot to take in but like Mrs. Whitwam said, take it one day at a time and it will be alright. Good luck tomorrow guys and let me know how your day was!! :redpinkhe
So.... anyone up for first week updates????
So far this week we have only done lecture. My ass hurts from sitting for so long and I am so tired from sitting in the class room. My teacher is so nice and she has a really high pass rate for her class. I don't think we have done anything to hard yet, but it is just so much information. I will be glad when we start lab.
So we all have to do well elder visit, fun fun! There is a lot of additional work incorporated that is required to turn in but doesn't count for anything if you don't pass the test.
How are you doing?
My first week went great. The chapters did not seem as hard to read as I first thought they would be and the powerpoints are very helpful. Learning our first skills for eval was quite fun (although somewhat nervewracking when you KNOW someone has a pulse but you just can't seem to find it).
I don't know about you guys but I am soooo excited!! I love my instructor and most of my classmates are great. Of course there are a few who may not be as committed or who seem to say 'oh well, that's close enough' a bit often (eek) but we'll see how things change after the first exam.
Oh, and have you had your ATI presentation??? I can't wait to play around on that!! Listen to me, I sound like I just got a new car. Who knew school could be so exciting.
The guy from ATI came and that seems really cool. They seem very dedicated to seeing that we get the most help possible.
I can't believe that we didn't start any skills this week.
My class seems great so far, there are always those ones who ask way to many questions and talk about the most random stuff, but I guess that is what works for them.
I have been very excited and I get there early every morning to study a little. It is awesome so far.
Only 1 lecture?? You are T-W-Th days right??? We have done ch 2, 12, 24, and learned handwashing and VS already. Did you have all of that in 1 lecture??Oh and yeah, I still need to find someone to do my elder project on...
We had all three days lecture. No skills yet. We have done the same chapters though. She let us go early every day she said we are going to have a long week next week and i figure they will give us a pop quiz tuesday.
I have been tired too! I guess just from getting back into the groove of things. I am hoping to have all of my chapter reviews done this weekend.
Yup, add me to the tired group too. After working nights for so long it might take a while to get back in the groove of being functional so early in the morning. Lucky you to get out early. We will not be getting out early at all. Unless you count today, we got out less than 10 min early and spent that reviewing VS. I think our instructor just wants to give us as much time to practice the VS before the eval as possible, so we started them Wed after lunch. Did you get a chance to use the computer software that lets you practice temp reading and BP reading??? Those are pretty neat too...
