Hi,
Since there was a very extensive thread last year about application process to Yale, I thought I would start a new thread for 2009 hopefuls. I am working on my application and wanted to know who else chose Yale as one of their options. What program? How is the application process going? Essay writing? Any anxieties? I am applying to the Adult Advanced Practice Nursing but still deciding on the specialty. The hardest part for me is the essay writing as English is not my first language, but I have been working on it for some time now and getting close to finishing the final version. Anyone else wants to share?
ugh i can't wait to find out! I just cancelled my interview to Duke this friday and sent in my deposit to BC (which was due last Monday), but I can't stop thinking about Yale! Arg, I guess I can only hope for the best! Is anyone else waiting on Yale as their first and final choice?
::raises hand:: .. yeah i only applied to yale. i hate telling people this because it comes off like i'm extremely cocky and confident.. but really its cause they have no prereqs! i didnt take any science classes in college so to fulfill most of the prereqs for nursing programs out there while working a full time job will take me like 9834923y432897 years before i can apply. i think there should be some sort of standardization for prereqs for nursing programs.. i mean people complain that there are not enough nurses, but yet these are all these obstacles to becoming a nurse.
so yeah.. im a bundle of nerves these past few days.. i just want to know already! if i dont get in, i plan on applying again next year and i'd have more prereqs under my belt so i'll be applying to other programs too.
good luck to everyone!
I second what StephaBee stated, Angela told me the same thing last week. I am dying out here. Sprinklez we are in the same situation. I could not apply to any other schools. Yale is my only chance. E-mailing everyone would have made this so much easier. Now, i keep staring at my phone and my e-mail like a mad woman. Stalking the mail man will start Friday for me.
I also applied to Yale only. Putting all my eggs in one basket is very stressful, but due to my schedule there was no way I could fulfill the prerequisites required by other schools. So this waiting is making it even more excruciatingly painful because I have no other school acceptances to fall back on. Even though I took some of the classes, like Genetics for example, many schools that I was interested in, wanted that and other science classes to be taken within last 5 years. And since I have taken many of them 6-10 years ago, I was not about to take them again. And as to Anatomy and Physiology courses, required by almost all schools I looked into, they require a lot of time commitment that I could not afford this year.
the lack of standardization for pre-reqs across these types of programs is beyond frustrating. it makes no sense, and from what we heard at the Yale interview, there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of evidence out there that coming in with pre-reqs makes you better prepared to be a nurse. all it seems to do is act as a barrier for many people who would like to swtich careers, but can't afford all the pre-reqs.
I didn't know when I was hearing back from the other two schools I heard back from-- I just had a general idea. But knowing they've made their decisions and knowing they sent/are sending out the letters today/tomorrow is making me wayyy more stressed out!! not to mention how much I'd love to go to Yale.... gl everyone :)

Okay, so here's all the ideas:
Elizabeth83, LillyB and WannabePNP said that the notices go out on the 13th. (This is what I thought too.)
Yalienne said that the notices go out before the the 13th and is emphatic about such. (This would be awesome.)
Bidatheraptor said that Angela said the 15th, which didn't compute considering it's a Sunday. (Yup.)
There may or may not be phone calls, but nobody knows when really. Kimij says that there are going to be phone calls maybe even before you get the letter--if you live far away, which makes sense.
I know it's somewhat fruitless to try and quantify waiting time for something like this, but it'd take the edge off for me if I had a date to focus on. Does anyone want to actually make a call to the proper authorities? I call not me...
