Anyone applying to University of Memphis Loewenberg for Fall of 2011?

U.S.A. Tennessee

I am applying by February 2011 to be accepted and start the the nursing program in Fall of 2011 at the University of Memphis. Is there anyone else applying for next Fall? If so, I would love to talk to you and have someone else to share the nerves with! Thanks.

I think they can have a little gray or silver in them as long as they are mostly white. The Reebok Easytones I got have a little bit of gray. You're so right , though-- even though it's barely noticeable it does make a huge difference in the cuteness of the shoe!

I just want to say congrats to all of you. I am very hopefully that I will soon be apart of the start of a exciting yet fulfilling opportunity. I plan to take the Teas in November/December and apply for Nursing for Fall 2012 for the accelerated program. I already hold a bachelor's degree, currently not working and finishing up 4 of my pre-reqs. I was wondering if anyone can tell me about your experience with the Teas? I see that Memphis is administering the Teas V, Tell me what your thoughts, and what do you think is the best guide to you use for studying, what to expect on it and how long do you think is good to prepare for it? Also, has anyone taken in A&P classes/microbiology at Memphis,? if so what did you think? I just want to make sure I nail all of these classes up until I complete my ultimate goal, which is to be a nurse. Best of wishes to all of you!!!:yeah:

Good luck Healthnut!

When I took the TEAS, it was the TEAS 3 or 4. I studied this guide http://www.amazon.com/TEAS-Pre-Test-Study-Manual-Mathematics/dp/1933107006/ref=pd_sim_b_2 .I did really well on the TEAS but I studied for a couple of months beforehand. I took Micro at U of M-Dr. Wong was wonderful and I really felt like I learned the material in the class. I took A&P online through RODP and it was a lot of work, but I still did fine. I didn't feel like I got as good a grasp on the material though because I'm an auditory learner. I had the choice to be in the accelerated program and because I have 3 little kids, I chose not to do it. I figured this will be hard enough to manage without all of the extra work. GL again! :)

Aww Thank you Hayleyh31!! I appreciate you helping me. Yeah, I think you choose a great path for yourself, I think the accelerated for me would be a good idea for me since its quicker and I do not have any children, but I may weigh my options and talk to my advisor to see what she thinks. But I am sure you will do great, Thanks for you help and Good Luck to you!!

Hey guys/girls! I'm excited to meet you all this 25th. I'm a bit nervous too; this is going to be very interesting! I'm just wondering how many sets of scrubs should we have?

They still don't have the books prepackaged at the bookstore yet- does anyone know if the book list on the website is complete?

And also does anyone know if the lab book (Student Laboratory Manual for Physical Examination & Health Assessment- the only one, I think) is University of Memphis-specific or can I order it anywhere (eg, online)?

I was just coming over here to ask a question about books. I just checked my email and the last day to use your bookstore advanced payment plan is August 20, they don't disburse erefunds until the 26th, and I heard we're supposed to buy our huge package of books on the 25th with our orientation. I'm not going to have an extra grand sitting in my bank account to be able to buy books on the 25th, so I don't know if I should go ahead and get them on the last day or wait until the 26th? What are you guys gonna do?

I don't know anything about the bookstore advancement plan. However, they say they should have the books prepackaged in about a week or so. So I'm sure you could buy them before the orientation. Personally, I've already ordered almost all my books online. I'm going to go by the bookstore whenever they do have the prepackaged books to make sure I have all the right books.

So what have you reviewed, material-wise? I remember they suggested metric conversions, do you remember what else? Thanks

Basically the bookstore advanced plan is when you are able to go into the bookstore and buy your books by swiping your student ID. They just apply it like another fee to your balance. I think it's only available if you have excess financial aid though.

I may call in a couple of weeks and pick them up before orientation.

I've reviewed some anatomy, but not much. I heard definitely review the heart and the section on acid/base balance. I've got my notes and textbook with me in the hospital with my son this week and I'm planning on doing some reviewing while we're stuck in here. Can you post the supply list that was on that sheet? I can't find that one sheet anywhere.

thanks, will do. hope everything is alright with your son.

Which supply list do you mean? The Nursing Clinical Accessory Pack? If so, here ya go:

- stethoscope

- sphygmomanometer

- penlight

- bandage scissors, list 5 1/2"

- nylon pocket organizer

- face shield, disposable

- clear plastic student ID badge holder

other required materials:

- watch with second hand

- black ball point pen

- Sharp EL-243SB (or) Sharp EL-233SB calculator (no substitutions)

- 3 inch, 3 ring notebook binder with pockets

hope that helps! if not, lemme know

That was it, thanks!

My son is ok, we're just in the epilepsy monitoring unit at Le Bonheur getting things checked out. It needed to be done and I'm trying to fit everything in before school starts! LOL

Hey guys! Congrats on getting into Loewenberg!

One or two sets of scrubs will be sufficient for the first semester. You will need to wear them to clinical one day per week and to skills lab one day. You will need to wear professional dress with your lab coat to pre-lab the evening before clinical. Save your money on scrubs since you are purchasing so many books!
