Anyone applying to University of Memphis Loewenberg for Fall of 2011?

Published

I am applying by February 2011 to be accepted and start the the nursing program in Fall of 2011 at the University of Memphis. Is there anyone else applying for next Fall? If so, I would love to talk to you and have someone else to share the nerves with! Thanks.

I got my acceptance letter today too!! The best day of MY life!! I can't wait to meet all you guys! :):)

I'm going to try to do the accelerated program but not sure how to go about it... :)

I'm so so so so excited for everyone!!!!! You all are awesome!!

Anyone want to try and take a CPR class together? I went today and got all of my vaccinations I needed since I wanted to file with insurance and I'm a total wimp when it comes to shots and didn't want to pass out in front of all you cool nursing folks :) I got 4 today plus my TB skin test and my Hep B arm is sooooooo sore compared to my Tetorifice arm. I have my physical scheduled for next week, and now just need to send off for my background check and get that CPR class out of the way. I know I jumped on the vax's , but I wanted to have my Hep B done before clinicals and dealing with any type of blood, never had chickenpox, needed Tetorifice and Flu.

I'm so excited for everyone too! I need to get on all those vaccinations since I will be using insurance for mine as well. Hayley, did you just go to your primary care doctor and tell them you needed all that done? Also, I actually already have my cpr cert. since I used to work for an oral surgeon and all us in the office had to have it. Coincidentally, I took it with cpr-to-go with the same lady they suggested in the letter. She is awesome and makes the class fun.

No, I just went to The Shot Nurse in Cordova. They file with BCBS or United Healthcare. They were also super duper nice. I didn't have a PCP actually, so I ended up finding one this afternoon for next week. I'm going to do a Saturday or Sunday with her though so that my hubby can hang with the kiddos. I know it doesn't really matter if we get this stuff done first to get prime class times, but I just want to know my schedule for next semester as soon as possible after our orientation. I'm also a little shocked that everyone of us on here that applied got in! That's really neat.

They will also be there on the 25th, but they won't file insurance that day. My insurance covered everything except the TB test, which was $25.

Ravenshelly--I checked the little box for the accelerated program on the application, and they called me last week to ask if, since it'll be my second degree, I wanted to be considered for the accelerated option, and I said yes definitely lol so today when I opened my letter I kinda expected it to specify which program, but it didn't. So I called the office and they said that it shouldn't specify in the letter because we're all accepted into the same program, but the accelerated option people will take more classes. In other words, we'll have classes with students that aren't on the accelerated path as well as others....as far as I understand lol hopefully it'll all be explained at the pre-registration thing on the 25th.

Can't wait to meet everyone, and congratulations again!!! :)

Yup- they called me last week as well to see if I wanted to do the accelerated program and I said no way. Nursing school with 3 little kids is going to be hard enough- adding 3 clinicals in the spring on top of all the extra classes would mean I would live at the hospital. She did say that if you had no real work or family committments (kids), it is a really great program for those with a 2nd bachelor's degree.

Got my acceptance letter yesterday (teas 94, gpa 3.92)! :clpty:

I hope they make an exception for me getting into the accelerated program even though it's my first degree. I have every other class completed (upper division elective, ethics class, etc) except for the nursing ones.

Now it's time to get the immunizations, background check, CPR (I know it's done in some lady's house in horn lake), etc.

Congrats to everyone! I've heard this first meeting can be intimidating, just to give everyone a heads up; that's just how nursing school will be at first, trying to weed everyone who's not dedicated / qualified enough. But I'm sure if you are serious enough to be on here, you will have no problem compared to the others (ha you know who I'm talking about, we all saw them in our prereq classes).

I haven't recieved my letter yet and I'm going out of town this week, so I'll be dying with anticipation! Has anyone who has been accepted looked on their mymemphis account to see if their student information has been changed to reflect their admission?

I scheduled my CPR class for next Sunday. The lady in Southaven was so, so nice when I called.

Congrats coonkine! And I hope you have good news waiting on you when you get back, vtcw!

Coonkine- I've heard the same thing about this first orientation- it's about scaring you a little when it comes to how much work this will really be. After talking to a friend in her 1st semester right now, they weren't lying! I don't know if they'll let you jump into the accelerated program-- I'm not sure why they think you would need to have a 2nd degree to be able to do it, but it never hurts to ask in a situation like that.

Are y'all planning on doing any prep this summer as far as reading books? I ordered Pharmacology for Nurses Made Incredibly Easy and Pathophysiology Made Incredibly Easy, both based on recommendations from this forum. I'll also be brushing up on my A&P, which is hopefully still fresh since I'm still in A&P2.

hey everybody!! so I've been thinking lately and reconsidering my previously adamant desire to be on the accelerated path. I'm just not sure if I want to take that on since nursing school will be difficult enough without it being sped up at such a fast pace. so my questions is....does anybody know exactly how long the traditional path is? It will be my second degree, so I know it obviously won't be 4 years, but I'm just unsure about how long that would actually take. Thanks for you help! :)

All Traditional programs are 2 yrs minimum whether at the university level or the community college level due the the type of classes and clinicals. I think I researched every school in West TN and they were all 2 yrs after your pre-reqs
