Hey just wondering if anyone is applying to UAB's MSN program. I'm applying to their FNP program, but still unsure as to whether or not i'm making the right decision about school choice. I'm specifically wondering about the time commitment. I work full-time and am wondering if I would still be able to keep my full-time job and do the distance learning format full-time as well. Also, cost is a major issue to me as my husband is racking up a gizzion dollars in dental school loans. Any info would be awesome.
What I can't understand is why every week UAB says they will be mailing the letters "by the end of next week." I'm like, really? Cause that's what you said last week too. I can't figure out what is taking so long and why this has become such a major ordeal. Are they searching for the perfect stamp? I'm not picky. Any stamp will do. Are they waiting on a shipment of gold embossed envelopes? Plain old white works for me. Did they run out of ink? e-mail is an awesome alternative. Matter of fact, I indicated that I would like to be notified by e-mail. Or....are they waiting for me to lose it to the point that I'm sitting in a corner with my hair standing straight up, babbling, and licking my shoe. Well, mission pretty much accomplished UAB! I'm stressed, anxious and out of all patience and I promise, I really tried to be patient, but come on, enough is enough. I'm ready to go out and kick my mailbox's post if it gives me anything but a letter from UAB today. So, yes, no, or whatever, I want my letter and I am so over this infernal limbo. And finally, all I have left to say at this point is UGGGHHHHH!!!!! Sorry, had to vent.
JSoupy, I feel EXACTLY the same way. And it's nice to hear someone else vent. I called last week and talked to the girl at the front desk of the office of student services. I said, "do you know that the website says we will be notified of a decision within 30 days of application due date" ? To which she replied "Oh that was a misprint. It is supposed to say that the applications will be reviewed within 30 days of application due date." Really? because it says that we will be "notified within 30 days" on every fact sheet for every specialty. That's a lot of misprints. Furthermore, I am being asked by my manager every single day when I am going to give her notice that I will no longer be a full time employee, and I can't answer, because I don't know. That's embarrassing. I'm stressed to the max wondering if I'm going to be paying for and attending a Master's program in one month. And the newest date that I've heard that we will get our letters is "On or around July 14." Last week when I talked to the guy who sends them out he told me, "they will be sent out sometime next week." So it's changing weekly. I'm just really sad that the school I wanted to attend so badly and had such high hopes in is proving itself to be just plain unprofessional.

You're my hero!! This is exactly how I feel.
JK, I am so grateful that you pointed out their "misprints" to them because the funky thing is people often take this information quite literally and tend to expect the official word to be truthful and accurate. Whoops! I also expected my letter within 30 days being the literal person that I am. I'm like you, I have other decisions to make that are pending on this answer and I do not have the same luxury of time that they seem to have so, so much of. I really had my heart set on UAB. At this point though, I can't really keep waiting and I'm going to move forward and get prepared for the possibilty that I'm not going to UAB in the Fall and I'm going to finish getting everything turned into my other schools because if not UAB, I want to know that I am least going to be going to school somewhere in the Fall.
Calijaz, thanks so much. At least we know we're all not alone in this waiting process. I too did not apply to USA. I had already missed the deadline by the time I decided to switch my graduate major from nursing ed. to NP. I may still apply for the Spring semester pending the outcome of this, but I'll try to get some classes out of the way in the Fall if I can if that happens.
That sounds a lot better than what they told me earlier. Nothing came in the mail today, but I guess I'll be on the look-out over the next few days for something to hopefully show up. I don't live too far from B'ham and I'm pretty high up on the alphabet food chain if they are sending them out in that order so hopefully it won't take too much longer. I've got my fingers, my toes, and my eyes crossed!
Just to be a little on UAB's side, they switched how summer semester works this year and it has everyone crazy. I can tell you no one is on vacation. The director of my program is teaching one of my classes this semester and I'm sure she has a big role in reviewing the applications. The summer semester was changed from 12 weeks to 9 weeks. For my program it meant having to add on an additional semester, because all of the same content can't be covered in the summer anymore. In the end I think it will be better, but this first time around seems pretty hard on everyone. Students and faculty. I'm guessing this has delayed the final review of the acceptance letters. I know how frustrating it is to wait to hear if you're in or not, but when you are a student you will appreciate them prioritizing their classes over their administrative duties.

Thanks Annaiya for giving us some insight as to what's going on at UAB. You're right. I would appreciate them making me a priority as a student. However, I'm still anxious knowing that the letters are ready and just waiting to be mailed out, but on the flip side, I can understand where they may have hit some snags with all of the recent changes. You're dedication to the program tells me that it must be a great program and it helped to settle me down a bit. Thanks again:rolleyes:
I'm pretty anxious as well. They are not the only school taking a longer time to notify about admission decisions though. I have two other applications pending as well. When I'm anxious to the point of nausea, I try to remind myself that no news is good news. My ego is fragile now, I've been denied admission to one of my premier choice programs and my safety net program, lol. My favorite nursing Prof. has told me several times that I'll end up where I'm supposed to be (she into integrative health, can you tell?) and to stop stressing about it. It's nice to come to this site and know that I'm not alone:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat

Thanks for the info. I find this very frustrating. Communication with the applicants could of avoided all of this! Glad the wait is almost over!
