Anyone applying to UAB MSN program?

Published

Hey just wondering if anyone is applying to UAB's MSN program. I'm applying to their FNP program, but still unsure as to whether or not i'm making the right decision about school choice. I'm specifically wondering about the time commitment. I work full-time and am wondering if I would still be able to keep my full-time job and do the distance learning format full-time as well. Also, cost is a major issue to me as my husband is racking up a gizzion dollars in dental school loans. Any info would be awesome.

I got part-time too. I just took it as a sign that I needed to take it easy since I do everything at full-throttle. I had an ADN and finished My BSN in April taking 13 credit hrs (undergrad and grad) a semester to finish up as fast as I could. I managed to keep an institutional 4.0, but my face was always in a book or a laptop. It was basically all-consuming, but I was totally driven. I don't really want to put my family through that again. I figure this will be better on me stress-wise and family-wise because I also work full time and have a husband and three kids, and not to mention, a mother that loves her mother-daughter shopping days, but left to my own devices, I would have hit it as hard and as fast as I could of. Overall, I think I'll enjoy the more laid back pace because, before I had zero life. However, I do have to admit that I have it in my head that maybe they'll let me speed up after the didactic classes;)

The nice lady from UAB admissions office said that I was sent a packet and not a letter. I live in GA so said packet is not in my hands yet and I don't have deets yet. I hope this means what I think it means. She told me not to worry. :D goodluck everyone!

So does this said package fit in my mailbox or do I need to start stalking my apartment office as well?

The "packet" will be in your mailbox and it contains all your Instructions and many of your forms. The fact that its a packet and not a letter is a good thing for sure.

Hi jsoupy, I still haven't heard and am actually in bham looking for an apartment. I'm relocating either way but it would still be nice to know if I'm in. This may be rude, but can I ask what your experience, etc is that you think helped you be admitted? I'm just trying to compare myself to others who have previously gotten in. And I'm about to have a nervous breakdown just not knowing what I'm going to be doing in one month. Full time job? Part time job? Flex job? Ahhh! Anyways, you know how it is. Any info at all would be helpful. Thanks!!

Congratulations everyone.

I got my acceptance letter and packet today from UAB for my first choice of FNP. It will be part time, as I requested........I am so excited!! The letter was dated 07/06/11 so it probably arrived on Friday, but I didn't check my mail until today.

:yeah:Congratulations! Can I just ask some of you who have been accepted what type of GPA did you have? Also, is there a preference for southern state residents as opposed to those who live elsewhere? Just curious. Thanks.

JK, I don't mind at all and I definitely don't think you're rude for asking. I was curious about these things too prior to getting my packet. I was just wishing I knew what they were looking for. Even now, I'm not really sure what they were looking for, but I think it helped that I am an Alabama resident. I've heard they give preference to residents (not absolutely sure on this one). I had a 3.77 GPA on my last 60 credit hours and a 4.0 for my BSN and I'm pretty sure this helped too. Also I'm a member of Sigma Theta Tau and Phi Kappa Phi. That may have helped too. I also had some really good references from people that are really passionate about seeing me progress and I put a lot of thought into my essay and why I felt furthering my education in the direction of NP was so important to not only my future but to the future of the profession. I think mainly, they are looking for dedication and motivation, not necessarily the ultimate GPA and I tried my best to express this in everything I put into my application. Hope this helps. I've still got my fingers crossed for you.

Congrats!! That's exciting!! Did you get in full time? I'm wondering about this rumor that they aren't accepting any full-time students for any of the specialties...

If I am correct, it appears that my first and only class for Fall 2011 is Advanced Pathophysiology...

That's only 3credit hours?

Looks like graduation is due for SPR 2014... So, I think I will be part time as well.
