Hey just wondering if anyone is applying to UAB's MSN program. I'm applying to their FNP program, but still unsure as to whether or not i'm making the right decision about school choice. I'm specifically wondering about the time commitment. I work full-time and am wondering if I would still be able to keep my full-time job and do the distance learning format full-time as well. Also, cost is a major issue to me as my husband is racking up a gizzion dollars in dental school loans. Any info would be awesome.
Congrats!! That's exciting!! Did you get in full time? I'm wondering about this rumor that they aren't accepting any full-time students for any of the specialties...
I think I got in part time as well; which is fine by me.
I start Fall 2011 *duh* and end Spring 2014.
It looks as though the schedule is only listing one class, 3 credit hours, Adv Pathophys.
Yay Calijaz!!!!Congratulations!!!!I've got patho and issues this fall, but my plan has me graduating in 2013 too.
Congratulations to everyone else too!!!!:w00t:
Luvlee, what concentration are you? I've heard some of the programs were extended due to the amount of content that needs to be covered.
Congrats to everyone who has gotten in! If you just have patho in the fall that is probably a good thing, that class is the most work by far, even though it is "only" 3 credits. I took it with Role Development, which is less work than Issues, imo. If you are graduating in spr 013 that sounds like full-time to me, but idk, maybe some programs are really different. Part-time for me is started fall 2010 and will graduate spr 2013.

I know some people at work that started in Fall 2010 "part time" FNP and some graduate in Fall '12 and some graduate in Spring '12. So it seems to me like they just place people at different lengths based on the resources they anticipate.
Annaiya,
Is patho mainly writing or more testing? I am curious about Issues as well. What kind of work is typically required for these courses? Also, I have to take descriptive stat.s because this was never a requirement for me. Do you know anything about this course? Thanks!
It looks like my first semester will actually be full-time.
To Calijaz: Yeah, FNP must be different then. For my program, clinicals only start in the spring, so you can only graduate in the next spring. There is no fall graduation anymore.
To JSoupy: Patho has writing, labs, and exams along with a lot of dense reading. Assessment is the only class I haven't taken yet and Patho was by far the hardest, imo. I really liked Issues, it is pretty much all writing with a couple of easy exams. You learn about the history of NP practice and then talk about current practice topics and things like billing codes. Some of it is boring but all good stuff to know. I took stats for my undergrad program. I didn't think it was too bad and it will help you a lot in your research class, since it will be fresh in your mind.
Hope this info is helpful.
I don't live in Alabama.
I graduated with honors. 3.98 GPA, strong reccomendation letters from professor of my BSN program, my current manager and a former director of the hospital. Also, mbr of Sigma Theta Tau. I think my goal essay was sufficient.
I applied for part time FNP as my first choice.
On my plan it lists 2 classes for fall 2011, Issues and Patho. Sping 2012 looks like a doozy- Research/Statistics-a 4 credit class and Assessment- a 4 credit class.
Summer 2012- 1 class.
Fall 2012 1 class.
My last class is Fall 2013 w/ clinical. 360 hours
I got an email to complte the background check info- be warned the background check costs $76 if you haved lived in only one county..However, if you have lived in multiple counties ,the cost increases. For example, my order totaled over $250.00 when I placed it today.
