Anyone applying to Texas Tech's program, specifically the 2nd degree Austin program? What is your work experience? What prereqs have you taken/still need? Volunteering? GPA? Heard anything interesting lately about the program? Let's get to chatting!
Hi everyone! So glad someone started this forum.
I'm in the process of applying right now too! All I have left to send in is the actual application and finish up 2 pre-requisites. I have a 3.7 overall, 3.5 science and a 95 on my TEAS. I have 2 years of volunteer experience in the NICU/Well Nursery and in the adult rehabilitation unit. I have also been over seas to work with orphans for medical and non medical reasons. Good luck guys! We can get through this!
Thanks so much!!
Yea I'm going to retake the TEAS to be more competitive, I really would like to go to TTU-Austin.
You may want to check with an advisor as to whether or not you actually need to re-take it. Here is a direct quote via e-mail from Kayla when I asked about the TEAS, "We will accept proficient level (58.7%) or above on the TEAS V".Unanswered questions are counted as incorrect.
Also, I believe the TEAS scores must be submitted from the testing site or requested at www.atitesting.com for $26 per transcript sent.
Your CPR and CNA certification have to be submitted by the program start date, not the application close date.
You must also submit a transcript or certificate of completion of a medical terminology course by the program start date.
Hi everyone!
I am also re-applying to the Austin program. I made it to the interview last year but was not chosen. They later offered me a spot if I was willing to move to El Paso for a year, but that was not an option for me.
I got to the interview with a fairly low cumulative GPA (say 3.2/3.3?) but a 3.8 for all the science prereqs. I just looked up my TEAS V score 88% (adjusted individ. total). Lots of travel experience. Zero-Minimal healthcare experience - I'd completed my CNA that summer but had no job or volunteer position. I was told to complete my coursework and get some experience.
So nowww I've been working in hospitals as a CNA since February - By the way, I see Tech nursing students from the 2013 program working their clinical hours at St. Davids all the time. Unlike the other programs which seem to show up in groups, I usually see the Tech students come in individually and work closely with one nurse.
P.S. I spoke with a Tech student panel last year (available for questions after the interview) and they said make sure to re-apply if you don't make it. I think 2 of the 5 made it in on their 2nd attempt and they suggested the panel is impressed by those applicants who don't give up.
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE! :)
This is probably a silly question, so please, no one make fun of me. When the "travel experience" question came up, I took that to mean "work/volunteer related travel experience" and not "vacation travel experience". It was a little ambiguous to me so I was just wondering if that's how other people took it too. If I make it to the interview process and I should have just put any travel experience, then I'd like to bring that up. Thanks in advance and good luck everyone!
Flyonn- I took it to mean both. I am an American who was born and raised in the Middle East, so I felt like that was worth mentioning even though it was not work/volunteer related. If you did some sort of study abroad or have had significant travel experience, I feel like that is an important part of who you are and the committee should know. That's just my opinion though!

Wow, anyone else rattled by what kcame and aqua2303 posted? I'm so nervous!
This concerns me because I'm taking my last two prereqs this semester
"One way (i hear) they weed out the 150 applicants (36-40 spots) is if you have completed all of your prereqs"
Anyone heard anything else about this?
Also my overall GPA is only a 3.2 but my science is a 3.6, I'm wondering if I will get cut right off the bat for my overall with them trying to "weed out".
