Anyone Applying to Samuel Merritt ABSN April, May, June 2009?

Published

Is anyone else applying to ABSN at Merritt for Spring 2009. Let's post our experience the next 6 months here. I'm just getting started on my application due nov 1. Good luck.

Thank you for your input!!! I am still confused for which one you applied for? When do you start? which campus are you planning to go to? I got 80% on composite score but my English is low... 60%, so do not know what my chances are  I hate this waiting process!!!

I got in San Mateo spring 09 term. orientation for me is DEc 9th.

MISERY!!! Why can't they just email or write us to say that they received our applications!? I'm hoping for Oakland even if it's a trek from where I live in SF. Have HORRIBLE undergrad GPA (below a 3), good/great letters of rec, great personal statement (IMHO), all my classes after college I've aced, and I smoked the NET with a 96. WHAT ARE MY CHANCES???

hey moxie,

they will at some point email you to notify that they got ur apps. It will take like a month maybe. I heard oakland is pretty hard to get into and that's why I didn't apply there. I think San mateo or sac is easier...maybe I'm wrong about this. your scores I really good, is the gpa without the courses you took after college or are the grades for those included? really this is what they told me....they count your last 90 quarter units or last 60 semester units to calculate your GPA. so you might have a higher GPA. I could also be wrong about this... but someone from admission told me that they have accepted people 2.70 gpa even though this didn't meet the minimum 3.0 requirement because they were underenrolled. and there's a lot of factor like how competitive is the applicant pool of that term. anyhow goodluck!

Hm... good info hellophuo. In that case, I guess my GPA would be better since the last 9 classes have all been As! :yeah: I put Oakland as my first choice, San Mateo as my second, SF as my third. How do they figure out where to put you? Don't forget to post when you get started with your classes. Maybe just to give us a thumbs up or thumbs down on the teachers and such. It would be great to hear how you are getting along! :typing

I know what you mean Moxie157! I sent my app on October 30. I just checked my bank account, and they haven't cashed my check yet. :uhoh21:

What is the status of other app checks? cashed yet? Should I worry yet?

Nothing cashed yet on my end either...

Mine got cashed on 11/12/08. I'm applying for San Mateo June 09. There is a thread for San Mateo June 09 applicants: https://allnurses.com/forums/f137/samuel-merritt-absn-san-mateo-june-09-a-342471.html Best of luck!

When did you turn in your application? I didn't turn mine in until Nov 1st.. heh. Still no action in my account.

Hi, same here. I turned my app in October 31st, 2008. I hadn't realized it intil now, that the check has not yet been cleared. I know they received my application because I checked online for the postal service and it was received by one of their personnels.

When did you turn in your application?

I turned in mine on Oct 23. BTW, I just talked to one of my girlfriends about applying for SM. She decided against it due to the high tuition and bad econ. This implies less competition for those who want to get an ABSN seat.

Current San Mateo ABSN student here. Yes, they do take you if your last 90/60 units are good. I had around a 3.6 for my last 60 units of college, but my cum was more like a 2.3. Also, my preq GPA was around 3.5. My NET was kinda high, I forget exactly what but it was in the 90's. I was accepted into SF, but offered to start at SM earlier (for which I never applied) because they had openings. I went to SM because I didn't see the point in waiting 5 months to start in SF. The order of difficulty for the diff. locations is/was from what I've heard: Oakland, SF, Sac, SM from hardest to easiest. This may be due in part to the newness of the SM location and lack of knowledge about it's existence, making it harder with following years.

Hey Hating the waiting. How are you enjoying the ABSN program?

I still have heard nothing from SMC and my check has not been cashed yet! It's been 3 weeks! I'm calling them today!!!! I'm freakin out!

Finally, my check finally was posted on the 26th. Now I guess the next wait is for a notice that they've received my app??? Ahhh, the waiting is dreadful.
