Anyone applying to NGCSU Fall 2012?

Published

Hi, I'm new to this site, and I just wanted to see who has all applied to North Georgia College and State University. Anyone with experiences, or others who have applied please reply with your stats...It would be greatly appreciated!

I'm just trying to get a general idea of what my stats should be like or what I should expect if im accepted. I have a 3.5 GPA and I just recently took my TEAS saturday so I am waiting on my score (Crosses fingers) :):):):)

Thanks!

Does any one know of scholarships that are still open?

We had to be at clinicals in Gainesville at Northeast Georgia last semester by 6:25am. Next year, we're going to have to do peds at one of the CHOA sites, so it could be in Atlanta on 285 or it could be in Decatur. For psych, who knows where we might go. We were told that we should be prepared to go to any facility in Atlanta, in metro Atlanta, Gainesville or anywhere that they choose to send you. Thankfully, in the first year, you only go to clinical one day a week. 2nd year you go to clinical twice a week and supposedly, we'll be going one day to med-surg and one day to psych and the next semester, one day to OB and one day to peds or vice versa if you have peds/OB first. We were told that clinical would start at 6:30am each day.

I don't know anything about any scholarships. I got one from the hospital that I work at but haven't gotten any others.

Thanks kmp5 for all the info! One more question: Do we meet at the school and then go to clinicals? Or do we drive directly to clincals? How long does the day last? Sorry! Three more questions! Oh....can we buy white pants for our uniform outside of Meridy? I just happened to have found some that are so soft, and I heard the uniform ones are kind of stiff and scratchy! And shoes....I want to try them on before I buy so I don't want to order the only two offered on Meridy! Were there any slight variations on the uniform by the students? Thank you so much!

Can anyone recommend an apartment close to the cumming campus? I would have to move. Thank you

I went to the Forsyth campus today, it's still being built...lol tried apartment hunting, very depressing, few apartments with very high prices..:(

You don't have to meet at school before clinical. Some people carpool but it's up to you where you meet if you want to carpool.

I bought the pants from Meridys and I think that most people in my clinical group did so as well. I did hear that some second year students told a first year to buy their pants at Wal-Mart but don't know if that was ok or not.

I didn't buy the nursing shoes from Meridys as I wanted to try them on and I didn't want to buy nursing shoes, as I thought they were ugly. I contacted Linda Stover to find out if athletic shoes were ok and she said they were, as long as they were all white and a small logo was ok, nothing big. I got Nikes, found them at Shoe Carnival for under $40. They aren't ugly and don't make my feet look like a loaf of bread (I have big feet).

The book lists are up on the NGCSU bookstore website if you want to start comparing prices on other sites. We did get a boxed bundle first year and it was slightly discounted, so I just went ahead and bought the entire box. I think if you order your books in advance, you get a small discount from the bookstore.

As for apartments, you probably aren't going to find anything reasonable in Cumming. You might want to consider looking around the Gainesville State College area, as the students from the school rent apartments and you might be able to find something inexpensive by yourself or a roommate share situation. I know that when I would use the computers at the school, there would always be people looking for roommates and it seemed reasonable to me.

Hey guys! Is there a particular uniform that we need to order off of Meridy's? There are so many different white uniforms to choose from, so I want to make sure I get the right one. Do we just order white pants, a white shirt, and a lab coat? Is there a password to get into the website? Also, where do we order the service learning shirts from?

On the online checklist, there is a link to follow, and you need to enter the school code (ngc1297) and it will bring up the approved uniform items. You need to order the right ones because there are school patches put on the lab coat, and top. The service learning shirt also has the school's logo on it I believe. So, go to meridys and enter the code, and everything we need will be displayed. As Kmp5 mentioned above we are not required to order our shoes from meridys, but there are strict guidelines, and these are listed in the student handbook at the school websit. You can always check with the nursing department as well.

Thank you so much sk8ing hunny! You are always a big help. :nurse:

Thank you. I have a 2 yr old, so I need to live close to school so I can drop her off and won't be late. It was quiet depressing when I went there this week, I would be moving far from anyone that can help with her.

I'm sorry to hear that. How far away are you now? I will be driving about 40 minutes each day. Maybe staying where you are, and making the drive would be easier to have hep with your daughter. Just a thought.

Great idea, i live in Marietta. All my family members are in NY, I just have a few friends, the can help in case but it can only be once a while. Daycare opens 6 and I think some days school starts 6:30, I would be late beyond words...lol
