Anyone applying to ASN program at Santa Fe CC in Gainesville, FL?

Published

I just applied for the first time to the RN program at SFCC in Gainesville, FL. They are on a points system and its very competitive like all the other programs out there. Anyway, just wanted to see if there was anyone else out there that applied or is going to apply there. Maybe we could chat while we wait out decisions arriving in the mail.

I submitted my application Friday, deadline is May 31st. I won't find out until the first week of July. Its not uncommon to not get in the first time around. I had also applied to UF's accelerated BSN program and got rejected. Not looking forward to another rejection, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if that happens here too. Just anxious and this wait is going to be terrible.

Its supposed to be a great program and I really hope that I get the opportunity to be a part of it.

Anyway, good luck to anyone who is applying!

What about you? Have you been in college since high school or did you take some time off in between?

Technically I have been in college since high school....I went to Flagler College for 2 years and then came over here for nursing. That was 2005. I spent the next 2 and a half years finishing my AA. I took a year off, and by took a year off I mean I dropped all my classes because my mom had cancer, and my grandfather passed away (don't they say, "when it rains it pours?") So I dropped basically everything from August 06-May 07. I then busted my butt and did all my sciences the last two semesters. Now...here I am. LOL.

Side note: I also have worked as a full time Nanny for the last two and a half years. So I wasn't completely doing nothing/school.

LOL.

Well they said to wait until a week before classes because that is when they are posting the syllabus as well as the book requirements. I probably wont buy any books until then. Textbooks are just too expensive to buy if I don't need them.

Butterfly- Did you cousin tell you what we cover in the first semester?

Yes she said basically its learning how to be a CNA. Which is making beds, get vitals( blood pressure, temp, etc.) She also said we would learn how to ask open ended questions and do something called a taping.

Hey Butterfly, can you find out what we will need as far as uniforms and scrubs? I Know things won't be identical to last year, but they should be close. I'm just trying to budget for what I will need to buy. Any help is appreciated.

I will do my best to remember to ask. LOL

OK so I asked my cousin about the uniforms she says she gets hers from the uniform store in the Creekside mall. She said that you can also get them from the Uniform store in the Plaza thats next to Toys R us.

By uniforms do you mean scrubs? Or do we need actual SFC uniforms?

I think she means scrubs. I called the Creekside store, and they said the color is Royal Blue and any style of Landau scrubs. Then I called the Oaks Mall one and they said that the color is Royal Blue and we can wear any brand and any style...I wonder which it is.

I called and got clarification about it. We can wear any style and any brand as long as it is in Royal Blue. We then have to buy the nursing patch from the bookstore and either sew or iron it on.

Thanks for clarifying for me!!! Is anyone gonna be working during the program? I am working parttime. I can't wait for the orentation so I can know what our schedule is gonna be. I know on our letter its say m-f 8-3pm but my cousin says they didn't have class everyday for the first semester.

I am not working. I am under the impression that we will have class everyday, I guess if we don't it will be a great way to utilize the nursing sim room and to study. I decided not working would be the best way for me to succeed.
