Anyone Applying to Antelope Valley College RN program

Published

I didn't see a thread on AVC nursing so I just made one for everyone. IS anyone applying to AVC nursing or in the program already? The person working at the department told me it would be like 3 semester waits. I'm expecting to get in around fall 2011 or spring 2012 since I turn in my application around October 2010. Anyone in the program already, would you please share your experience. Anyone who is about to get in the program, can you please tell me how long you've waited since the time you turn in the application?

Thanks everyone!!!

I'm an LVN and working on my prerequisites for the rn program and I was wondering if its better for me to do the bridge program or taking all 4 semesters?

wow, I don't know much of the bridge program, but seems like a better option for you since you are already and LVN. When I was taking my pre-reqs I had a friend with me who was doing her pre-reqs for the bridge program bc she too was an LVN at AV hospital. Why would you want to do all 4 semesters for the RN program? :) I'm just asking bc I believe, and correct me if I'm wrong, you'll get to skip a semester or two for the RN if you do the bridge. Did you want to do the 4 semester as a refresher? :-)

Well, I'm slated to start first semester NEXT WEEK. I turned in my application in December of 2009 and was also given an estimate of 3 semesters. I only waited 2.

I realize there will always be a he said/she said type deal when it comes to any program, but I've only heard good things about AVC's nursing program. In fact, here is the link to the BON's NCLEX pass rate for all nursing programs in California. AVC has a pretty impressive passing rate at close to 95% for the 2009/2010 school year.

Anyways, clinicals are done at AV hospital and most recently the newly opened Palmdale hospital. Also, AVC will begin using the TEAS version 5 so study accordingly.

Good luck, everyone!

JennaLaVicious,

good luck, i turned my app in jun 2010 and last week was asked if I wanted to start in Feb, but unfortunately I can't until the Fall. A couple of my friends were also asked to begin next week and they only waited 1 semester, although they were told it would be 3. So, hope no one is discouraged about the wait time bc seems like the wait list decreases rapidly.

:-)

Happy first semester

I am a current LVN student at AVC and sadly the LVN to RN bridge program depends on the school's funding. It is not a priority. You may well wait up to 3 semesters. Some of the professors are not so nice, 2 I can think of in particular. Others are fantastic. It is a rigorous program and you do have to be accountable for yourself. I would suggest if you have thin skin to look elsewhere. As a VN student, we are treated much differently than the RN students, and for that very reason, I would'nt attend AVC's RN program if you paid me to go. HTH.

You mean you would not attend the RN program as an LVN or as a regular student period? It is sad to have teachers who make your experience unforgetable in a negative way. :-(

I was thinking I would do all 4 semesters so I can get my ADN and if I wanted to later get my BSN because I heard alot of hopitals are starting to require a minimum of ADN. If I did the bridge program I would only do the last 2 semesters, but I'm thinking getting the degree will benefit me more plus I would learn more taking all semesters.

Hey guys i heard the waiting list is 3 semesters as well. how i ironic i was just checking the passing rates to compare to some pass rates in close proximity to AVC such as COC and LAVC and AVC is one of the top. I have taken my pre reqs here Micro with Shalah Anatomy with Feickert taking Phys etc. and i l like the school. im comfortable here so i cant wait till i turn in my application. besides the transfer to CSUB corses are soo similar its like a cake walk to get your BSN from a reputable school. =) i hope i dont have to wait too long ill try taking Phys in the summer so i can finally apply.

I am currently taking my prereq's at VC but I live in between AVC and Ventura so will probably apply to both. I had to miss the last information session and hope they have another one soon. I hear Moorpark also has a long wait but haven't really looked into them. Good luck to everyone! :yeah:

what classes are you taking... and do you care where you get picked up by or it doesnt matter.

There's NO waiting at Ventura college. You'll be in the program faster than AVC.

Really are you sure? is it a good school?
