Anyone Applying to Antelope Valley College RN program

Published

I didn't see a thread on AVC nursing so I just made one for everyone. IS anyone applying to AVC nursing or in the program already? The person working at the department told me it would be like 3 semester waits. I'm expecting to get in around fall 2011 or spring 2012 since I turn in my application around October 2010. Anyone in the program already, would you please share your experience. Anyone who is about to get in the program, can you please tell me how long you've waited since the time you turn in the application?

Thanks everyone!!!

I just found out Im #178 on the waiting list, how long will i have to wait, according to them its 3-4 semester wait. Does anyone know if its true?

You can calculate it out, but they take either 40 or 60 students a semester based on budget. So since we've had some budget cuts they'll probably be taking 40 for quite a while. You're looking at a 4 semester wait. In the meantime start taking classes for your bachelors/transfer classes.

Thank you for your help. And thats exactly what I'll be doing taking classes for my bachelors.

Does AVC accept applications year round, or only during a certain time? I've decided to not work and go back to school full time and will be prepared to apply at the end of Fall '12 semester. I'd like to be as prepared as I can, so I have met with a counselor, registered for BLS and ACLS (early- I know but certs are good for 2 years) and am getting all required vaccine boosters. I just want to know more about it. I understand there is a wait, so during that time I plan on preparing for TEAS and taking any additional lower division to transfer for BSN.

Any helpful advice would be appreciated, I want to have everything in line. Do they have informational sessions like COC does for people interested, but not yet accepted into the program? Or do they only have them for those applied and/or accepted?

Thanks! :)

i know this is a little late. they do accept applications year round. i really wouldnt take the ACLS till the 3rd or 4th semester. you definitely wont need it til 4th, plus you'll probably forget most of the content. do take all the general ed and transfer classes you can. you wanna be able to focus on the nursing classes.

Is anyone selling books for the first semester of nursing at AVC?

Last time I checked I was #83 and I am hoping I don't have to wait until next spring. Have you heard anything yet? Did you take the teas?
