Anyone Applying to Antelope Valley College RN program

Published

I didn't see a thread on AVC nursing so I just made one for everyone. IS anyone applying to AVC nursing or in the program already? The person working at the department told me it would be like 3 semester waits. I'm expecting to get in around fall 2011 or spring 2012 since I turn in my application around October 2010. Anyone in the program already, would you please share your experience. Anyone who is about to get in the program, can you please tell me how long you've waited since the time you turn in the application?

Thanks everyone!!!

Oh my goodness! Guys! AVC is really hard to get any classes. My registeration is today at 9pm and most of the classes are FULL :crying2: this is completely discouraging. Am I getting a late registration because I just moved here and I don't have seniority status or something like that?? I'm very frustrated right now. Man, I am so ready to get out there and start working my butt of and make something out of myself.

i know how you feel. that was me a while ago. and im sure its gotten worse since i started because there is more and more budget cuts and with the wait list thing. the waitlist sounds great, but it just make classes that much harder to crash. i know people that waited a year or more to get into anatomy. just take bio 101 and chem 101 if you can get into it. i took bio first semester, tried for anatomy second semester and couldnt get in, so i took chem. tried again 3rd semester to get into anatomy and couldnt so i took micro. finally, for the 4th semester, i got into anatomy by luck. i checked the day they dropped people for non payment, but not any time during the day. i happened to check the moment they dropped the people. i checked the page (at that point i was looking multiple times a day to see if a spot opened up), went away from my computer, came back and refreshed the page before i went to bed for the night, and voila! 5 spots were open!!!

the way i moved up and got priority, though is to keep taking classes every semester no matter what. i have really good grades and got onto the deans list and honor roll. make sure you fill out everything you need to get a better reg date. like do the online orientation and get an ed plan. you will get everything you need done. it might take some time, though. i decided to go back to school 3 years ago!!!! and now, i am finally going to start the program.

GOOD LUCK!!!!

Oh wow Catsolares! I appreciate you taking the time to write back on this, it means alot. It seems like Im going to crash a Chem class for this new semester. If you don't mind me asking how long of awhile was it for you to wait exactly? I guess I am so anixous and ready to begin a new chapter in my life. Lots of things have happened to me this past year and it's made me realize I have no more time to goofying off...i gotta cut the crap and start stepping up to the plate. How and when do you know the dates when they start dropping ppl for non payment?

Thanks for replying catsolres! I appreciate it :)

wait for what? like, how long was i on the wait list? i applied in december of last year and got my letter to take the teas test in aug. then got my acceptance letter in november.

and i was also wondering, if anyone is already in the program, so i really need the cd that comes with some of the books? i want to get ebooks so i dont have to lug around a huge bag, but dont know if it is worth it.

thanks

Hello, I just got confirmation that AVC got my application. My question is; how long would I have to wait to call and ask what number I am on the wait list, or do I get a letter/email.

Thanks

When I submitted my application and I knew they processed it, I just e-mailed the Associate Dean and asked. She told me right away. As far as a letter/email, don't count on it; It will never come. The only time you get a letter is when you qualify to take the teas test or they offer you a spot in the program. Be proactive and ask.

It is very important that you also notify them of any changes in address. When they do finally mail you anything, it will most likely have a deadline and they make no exceptions.

I just applied today for the nursing program at AVC. Has anyone heard whether the program is still only accepting 40 students? Or have they increased the number for Spring '11? I was also wondering how long it takes before you can get your number for the waiting list? Also have any of you, who have been accepted into the program, actually waited the full estimated time to get accepted? Thank you for your time.

I think they accepted 60 students for the program this time around.

it took 2 semesters for me to get into the LVN to RN bridge program. I think it was supposed to be a longer wait, but not many people passed the TEAS test and everyone on the waitlist who passed got in.

Thank you, rbvln!

That's very good to hear that they may have accepted 60. I know I have a wait ahead of me, but the sooner the better:)

hey, all. i just wanted to let you know i am starting a blog on my nursing experience. i hope it will give great information for you guys that haven't got accepted yet or the people still working on their pre reqs. you can stop by take a glance and ask me any questions you may have. i hope it will be a great reference for those of you that will be starting the program with me next mont (omg!! after a long 3 year wait, i am down to 1 month!!!).

hope to see you guys soon.

FYI: I just called AVC I'm currently #126 on the wait list for the generic RN program. :)
