Anyone Applying to Antelope Valley College RN program

Published

I didn't see a thread on AVC nursing so I just made one for everyone. IS anyone applying to AVC nursing or in the program already? The person working at the department told me it would be like 3 semester waits. I'm expecting to get in around fall 2011 or spring 2012 since I turn in my application around October 2010. Anyone in the program already, would you please share your experience. Anyone who is about to get in the program, can you please tell me how long you've waited since the time you turn in the application?

Thanks everyone!!!

Hey MunkeyAnn, I also took my Teas V on September 29th. But i must be a little higher than you on the list. I called on Friday and she said I am number 56, but it hasnt been updated yet. I passed the test, but didnt get an email about an informational session. i guess ill have to wait and find out later. i was going to call back at the end of this week and see if they updated because they told me a few weeks ago that they would know who will get in the spring semester during the second week of October.

good luck to you guys! and wish me some luck, too.

hi catsolares,

u should have gotten an email on myavc. I mean u took the tease same day as me so why shouldnt u get it. Check the spam box. Or call in to ask. Because the session is for those who are considered as potential students that might be in the spring program. If u have taken it the same day as me, then were about the same, so they should email u. Hoepfully its just a mix up. Go Find out so u can have some peacce of mind . Well i dont know hwen the list is going to be updated. All Karen told me is that teas test taking wont be done till end of October, so acceptance letter wont be out till mid-november. ok good luck

Oh, wow. I almost missed that! It was sent to my personal email and I thought it was junt mail so deleted it off my iPhone. I decided to actually log on the my email with a real computer and there it was! I am so glad I found this post while killing time at work today or I would have never known about it! Thank you munkeyann!!! Now I have to check my calendar to see which date I can make it. =)

oh wow thanks MayeLVN. I actually just check my email on myavc. For some reason, I keep assuming they will contact you through the regular mailing letter. Totally forgot about checking my emails. Yes, thanks for clearing it up for me. I will be attending it, hoepfully on oct. 27. I am actually in the generic program, and the last time i check before i was scheduled for the teas test, I was around 50. So I'm really keeping my finger crossed to be acccept this coming semester. I hope you do too. Eight people is not that much so hopefully, you will get a spot. But wow, that really sucks if you cant get into the brigde this spring. That's like another year to go. Im really sorry. Have you try COC?

Oh, and i didnt apply anywhere else. I only apply at AVC, so this is like my only chance. Well, hoepfully I will meet you at one of these informational session, and everyone else who is on this thread. Good luck to you too!!

Hi Munkeyann...I just learned that the dept is only taking 40 for generic and 20 for the bridge...they will however take some alternates just in case someone got accepted somewhere else or deferred or didn't pass the TEAS...

BTW, I did apply at COC and received my acceptance email today...but it would have been nicer if I get in at AVC...

@ MayeLVN,

wow mayelvn, u gotten really lucky. I heard coc is hard to get it isnt it? Its a lottery system, thats how u get in? Well, thats what i heard anyways. So ur in the bridge program for coc then? Well, if luck comes and u got an AVC acceptance letter, then u can deny coc for avc instead lol. U never know what can happen lol even though they're only taking 20. Thats kinda weird to me, only 20? At least 30 or more. This whole budget thing at AVC is really killing our nursing department. Well, I just hope ill be the lucky one in the 40s.

@catsoleres,

glad u found the email. Are u in the generic program? Well hopefully we can meet during the info session. Im not sure wat day i would go yet cause of work, but im looking at either the 27 or the 28th of October. By the way, does anyone know if its ok to work during the program? I mean how stressful would it be? Because i seriously nned to work to pay off rents and things. Really sucks but i think I will definitely crashed during nursing while working. I dont even know how the schedule will be like! Its probably gonna be hectic!

Munkeyann,

I got accepted to the COC nursing program but in the end when I knew my number in the list for AVC had gone down I rejected my COC. For COC they go by two methods, loterry and by overall application quality. So if they are taking 40 for example, 20 will be loterry the other 20 based on their appplication. I'm doing my first semester for AVC and half way into it. I do not work, but I am a full time mom of a 4yr old who just recently had an accident. So let me tell you, had this accident happened during the first 6 weeks of school I would have lost my head and messed up in the program...these 6 weeks are the most intense, there is a lot to learn and study. There are a few people in my class who failed the class a year ago and had to retake it. Anyhow, some of them were working and didnt have time to study so that is why the failed, so they say. Yet, there are other people in my class right now who are working and are passing. So it really depends on you and your study skills...just know the first 6 weeks are really hard. A lot of the time you have to go on your own time to the lab and practice the skills and also the way the questions in the exams are asked is nothing like the classes you've taken before. A lot of critical thinking, many good answers but the important one is the best answer and even if you know your information, if you can't apply and make critical thinking decisions it will be hard. I hope that helps you a little. :)

@munkeyann...yeah only twenty for the bridge since 40 are coming from d generic pool....only 60 R coming in.....but Im still hoping...Ill find out nezt week if they have updated the list...if not I will know on the 28....see u then....

@ munkeyann - yes, i am doing the generic program. i am going to the one this friday because i am already taking time off work next week for a dr appt and a volunteer interview at PRMC. I hear that if you dont have to work, then dont. I already told my job last week that if I get into the program I will have to either cut my hours all the way down to only about 10-15 hours per week, or not work at all. It will work okay for me if they allow me to cut my hours because they would have me work Saturdays, and that was always my study days at work. lol. I think I get more school work done during my 9 hour shift that day then most of the week.

So I called the office today to check if the list has been updated. Unfortunately, it will not be updated until after the 27th...so I guess, I am out of the running. I guess I will be attending COC...Good luck to everyone!

Did anyone attend the informational session today? I heard they have already scheduled people for the orientation and informed them of their acceptance. Anybody?

i went today. they didn't schedule people. but she said if you were anywhere from 1-60 on the list, you are in. anything over 60 and you are on a wait list. she also said that any lvn doing the bridge and passed the teas is in because 1/2 of the lens failed. she isn't even sure they will make the 20. she said as of now, there are only 17 lvns that passed.

Seriously? :lol2: I'm trying not to jump in joy :)

Did she say that the list was tentative or it is what's going to be? Did you make the list?
