Anyone apply for UCF nursing 2011 at Daytona Beach?

Hi, everyone! I am a wife with 2 kids, 15 and 9. My husband is out of country now and for four more weeks. I am taking Spanish 1 and nutrition at DSC now to be able to apply to UCF at Daytona next year. I have a 4.0 GPA and 75 teas score. I don't think I have time to study to take another teas test with my summer classes. I am Chinese learning Spanish. It is not easy! I am just gonna hope that not everyone apply has a 4.0 GPA. I like to read your story if you like to share.:)

Got my textbook list. It looks like I need 4 books for spring. Where do I find the good deal?

I have lots of questions about the booklist too if anyone can help...Are most of the books 'used only for this semester? I've heard that the Med/Surg books are used for more than one. Im trying to get away with renting if I can. Any help would be appreciated.

I check at abebook the total is about $100+shipping for 4 books. How about our tuition. I have the tuition for 2011 is $167.35 per credit hour x 62credit hours= $10,376 and 2,510.25 for first semester. I am thinking about applying student loan. It is better than credit card, right?

Demi,

Im not sure where you are seeing that we only need 4 books...The booklist that was sent to us from Maureen has 14 books on it I think. If you need me to send it to you let me know. If you order used books online you can get away with spending maybe 500-600 dollars or so on all of them. 100 dollars...no way, that would be nice though!!

Med/Surge you are going to need for third semester. Honestly, the books you are getting for the first semester are the basis of everything else you will learn (Fundamentals and Assessment, mostly). I can't tell you that I haven't looked through them in second or third semester for particular things. Assessment or technical skills I don't remember 100%, for example. You only need them for one semester technically - except for things like the nursing diagnosis book and davis's drug guide which you'll use in a bunch of classes - but I can't say it wouldn't help you to have them later on.

Also, at the meet and greet you may be able to talk to some of the seniors about borrowing or buying their books. Some may not be as attached to theirs as I am to mine, or they may be looking for some money lol. So that is something to consider as well.

I bought my books for under $400 online. If there's an international edition of the books, they're much cheaper. I got health assessment for much less and it was exactly the same book. Also, I didn't find the APA book helpful at all. I usually use OWL Purdue. But I obviously can't tell you not to buy it!

Kay,

Do you know why they are requiring us to buy the Med/Surg books if they arent even being used until Fall? I emailed Maureen and she said that all of the books on the list are required and needed for the Spring semester. Maybe they are changing curriculum and using them in the Spring, I dont know. If I can get away without buying them right away, as they are uber expensive, I would like to. All the other ones Im gonna just buy used I guess. Also, the fundamentals book which comes with the CD and skills checklist is like 150 on amazon. I can get it way less on another site but doesnt come with the cd and checklist. Did you guys have to have them? Just curious cause if you did Ill have to buy it new...

Check your PM's. Also, there were readings from the Med/Surge book but I can't remember if they were required readings or supplemental readings (as in, read this to understand better). :/ And unfortunately, we need that book in spring as well so you're unlikely to get it from a senior until summer at least.

I didn't realize we need all books at once. I just check the first semester classes nunmber and figure we only need four at first. I was wrong.

Kay.... Can you tell me where you go on line to buy your used book? I really love that you and bsnmom023 response so fast. Thanks.

Demi,

I bought my books on amazon and got almost all of them for 305.00 You might be able to use other sites but I find amazon the cheapest. Also, you may be able to get away with not buying the Med/Surg books til Fall. I am not sure but I dont think they are officially used til then. I also heard the APA manual is sort of a waste and that you can get the info online.

Awesome, bsnmom023 that is a really good price. Where are you guys finding the exact book list? Thanks. :)

Maureen from the Daytona campus sent us the booklist a few days ago. Are you going to Daytona? If you are Cocoa I dont know anything about when you'll get it... If you want I can email it to you...

Oh, I am going to Cocoa. Hopefully, they will send us the list soon. Sure, if you wouldn't mind private messaging me the list, that would be great. :)
