  1. Classes Mondays and Wednesdays and clinicals Tuesdays and Thursdays for Community the 1st 1/2, then Thursdays and Fridays for LTC clinicals the 2nd 1/2. That was my schedule. I know other clinical instuctors had their groups go 3 days a week for LTC just to get the hours finished and be done early. It really all depends on your instructor. Plan on a 4 day week at least. See you all tomorrow!!
  2. None of the basic BSN classes have been totally online except for the nursing elective, which you will be given a list of before the summer semester. The topics vary from oncology to genetics to rehab nursing...The only other class that had a large online component was Research. It's like a half and half format where you only attend every other week. As far as anyone doing a minor, I really have no idea. This program seems to be enough for most of us...lol.
  3. It is a little clicky but I think that happens a lot with groups. All in all we get along good though.
  4. background checks before every semester? Its not really cheap ive been making a list of how much money to have each semester so any little thing helps[/QUOT No, the cost of the fingerprinting and background check is only a one time thing. You do it all through a site called Certified Profile. You will have to update your physical, TB test and insurance before the Fall semester I believe. And you have to pay to renew your membrship to certified profile too buts its only 10 dollars. The books are what get really expensive. And the extensive book list you will get is ONLY the first semester, You will have to buy more books each semester. What I have done is bought older editions and have saved a bunch. A lot of times you are being tested from powerpoints anyway. And you don't need to buy the Med Surg books on the list. You will not need those until you take Adult 1 next Fall... you could get them if you wanted to read ahead because it is hands down the hardest class in the program(many people fail out this semester) but you honestly wont have the time especially first semester.. Hope I havent scared you all to death, just want to get you all ready for whats about to hit you. Its very difficult but its very doable if you are dedicated, organized and have great study habits... See you all soon!
  5. You have to call the onestop center closest to where you live. For me that was Daytona.
  6. Trust me they are better than the granny style elastic waisted pants we have to wear.
  7. Oh and another thing..if anyone is having trouble paying tuition and having to take out lots of loans...look into the onestop career center. UCF now contracts with them and if you qualify, you can get up to 2500 a semester. You have to live in Volusia/Flagler county and you must have a need...meaning they will only pay after grants and scholarships are applied and there is still a balance. For me it was great because I didnt qualify for pell anymore. Just thought Id let you all know. I was looking at having to drop so I thank God I found a out about it. Oh and they also give you like 80 dollars in gas cards every month too!!
  8. Lol, yeah I guess they do look like cheerleader uniforms a little, but they are way better than the all white ones that we still have to wear in my opinion, no modesty at all in those things! As far as "business casual" for class....dont even worry about that. We all wear jeans and shorts and flipflops....its very laid back, I dont even know why thats in there. You will wear your scrubs on the days you have labs and clinicals. Working for me was not an option as I have a child and frankly there was just too much work/papers. syudying for tests, etc.... Some of the people in my class did work though so it is possible, just keep it to a minimum cause as I said before, the first semester is a BEAST!! Especially community! Ugh, so glad thats over. I am seriously going to burn that book after this is all over...for now Im keeping it,lol (we use it again last semester for public health). See you guys at the meet and greet!
  9. The new unforms are really nice, The pants are black with a drawsrtring waist and I believe they have the ucf logo on them. The tops are white and they have a gold and black stripe on each arm. They kinda look like football jerseys to me. Much better than the old ones. Were not required to buy them since we already have ours. As far as what you can do to prepare. Id say just take this time to relax and enjoy your families. You will be extremely busy the first semester and you definately hit the ground running, so enjoy your free time while you still have it!!
  10. Hello incoming Juniors! I take it you all have received your acceptance letters and let me just say congrats to all that were accepted! It is a crazy, insane and wild ride but so worth it. You wil make amazing friends that you will learn to lean on and probably cry with many times, lol. I am a senior nursing student on the Daytona Campus and was in your shoes at this time last year. I was very thankful to have had one of the seniors at the time here on all nurses giving out some good advice on the program and what to expect. Everyone please feel free to ask any questions you might have and I will do my best to answer them as honestly as I can, One thing I will tell you all for sure is that the 1st semester is the craziest! You are going to be floored at the amount of work, especially in community, but if you keep organized it is much easier to handle. And I have seen the new uniforms you guys are getting!! So jealous!! They are waaaay better than the all white ones that we still have to wear...blech! Anyways, welcome again and I am here if you have any questions.
  11. Hello nursing hopefuls! I am currently in the basic BSN program at UCF and have been reading some of your posts. I was in the same position as you all are at this time last year and was anxiously waiting for a decision. Just to let you know, I had a 3.5 overall GPA, a 4.0 Science Pre Req and an 84 on the Teas V. All of your GPA's and scores sound great so dont stress too much about getting in. The GPA's are typically lower on the regional campuses and even if you're waitlisted, there are always folks who dont accept or decide on different schools so keep positive. I will say this though, the first semester is pretty crazy and although some of us had jobs, it is really tough. All the teachers are great and it has been a blast so far. And yes, we do clinicals in the hospitals, Halifax and Florida hospital mainly. Its only the first semester that you will have community clinicals and long term care. And please dont do the DSC program unless you really have to start and have no other choice. The BSN nurses have a huge advantage when it comes to jobs right now, which are hard to come by, (there is no nursing shortage) so it is very competitive right now. Good luck to you all and please let me know if you have any questions. Someone helped me out on this site when I was first starting and I wanted to pass on the good ju-ju;) Good luck!!
  12. Here is the name of the daytona facebook group. UCF Nursing Daytona C/O 2013
  13. Hello ufpsychgrad, I am also a daytona student and I started the Daytona facebook group. Ive heard from a few others that they weren't able to find it in search. Let me know how to find you on facebook or send me a private message here and let me know. And, Congrats!!
