Ive been doing some research on ways to be able to pay my bills while in Nursing School full time and I came across this program. Apparently they pay for tuition, books and give you a monthly stipend for living expenses in exchange for your committment of working in a hospital or medical center with a nursing shortage for two years. Has anyone applied and been accepted? are the funds provided enough to live off of?
I got the Nurse Corps scholarship last year! I am an accelerated student and next semester is my last semester in nursing school! I have to say that I love the scholarship!!! It's hard to get but when you get it, all you have to worry about is doing good in nursing school and passing your classes! You have to have been accepted in a nursing school or currently in a nursing school in order to apply. When I applied last May, I was accepted in a nursing school but had not started yet. I started nursing school at the end of May 2013. It took about four months for me to get the final yes for the scholarship. It takes that long because about 3 thousand people apply, they have to check and verify everything such as your credit, GPA etc. But it's worth all the paper work they asked for! Out of all my friends that applied, I was the only one who receive the scholarship. Only one of them had a loan problem due to the housing issues. She let her house go into foreclosure so that affected her. The rest, I don't know why they were not accepted but they do check everything. As credit goes for me, I had no credit, in other words, I did not have a good or bad credit. At that time I had never had credit card. So I didn't have any credit. Also, I have always have scholarships that cover my school fees which is why I never had a loan. But I do think you can have a school loan and still receive the scholarship as long as it's not negative in your credit report.

Hi Ariana, the only volunteer work I had was what I did in high school and that was over 6 years ago. I think what they want to know is if you have done any volunteer work. I don't know if my essay set me apart. Even though English/ writing is my strongest, I applied for the scholarship within the last week it was due so I was in a hurry and almost gave up because of time. And yes I get monthly stipend. It's a little over 1200 dollars after taxes.
