Anyone Applied to Baptist's Evening Program in San Antonio?

Published

Hi all! I also posted this thread in the Nursing Student forum, but haven't gotten any replies, so I thought I would post here in hopes of getting back at least one reply!

I applied for the fall semester at the Baptist School of Health Professions evening/weekend program in San Antonio. Looks like I won't be able to quit my day job like I had hoped, so that is the reason for me applying to the evening program. I would like to know if anyone else has applied for this program for the fall semester, or if anyone is currently doing the evening/weekend program while holding a full-time job during the day. How is the work load? How are the Saturday clinicals? I'm aware this is going to be a challenge, but I'm very willing and ready, and very excited!!

I appreciate any feedback...thanks! :)

Hi Becky!

I attend the evening program as well. The twelve hour saturday clinicals are fine. However be prepared to do clinical preparation on Fridays so you will not actually have friday off.

The book list is a little inflated. I would buy the following books:

Kee, J. L., & Marshall, S. M. (2009). Clinical calculations: With applications to general and

specialty areas (6th ed.). Philadelphia: Saunders. ISBN: 1416047409

Potter, P. A., & Perry, A. G. (2009). Fundamentals of Nursing-Text, Study Guide, and Mosby's

Nursing Video Skills-Student Version DVD 3.0 package (7th ed). St. Louis: Mosby.

[pkg. Includes textbook, study Guide and Skills DVD's) ISBN: 9780323067911

Swearingen, Pamela. (2008). All-in-One Care Planning Resource (2nd ed). St. Louis: Mosby.

ISBN: 0323044166 Or any current nursing care planning guide or resource (across the

lifespan).

You can find the Drug Guide information online and can get by with an earlier edition of the Clinical Calculation book. Rather than buying the All-In-One care planning book I prefer the Nurse's Pocket Guide: Diagnoses, Prioritized Interventions, and Rationales

Marilynn E. Doenges ISBN 13 9780803618572

I also recommend a good planner and sitting down with your course calendar and making a reading plan so its all manageable. Don't be overwhelmed its not really that hard at all.

I would recommend that you take the summer courses Algebra and Ethics at ACCD as I am very unimpressed with the quality of online instructors.

They will also give you an ATI book, note that material can and will be taken from that for testing.

Hi All! I am a 32 year old Mom of 3 starting all over again from another industry. I am currently a stay at home Mom and going to school PT. I've been reading these threads for a while now and am super psyched about all the excitement you all share. I am all the way in the past for most of you, I am still trying to complete my pre-requisites at PAC for the RN program at Baptist School of Health Professionals. I plan on taking their night program since I will be FT MOM during th day, which is a ft job and very exhausting. I go to the Baptist site often and am so happy they now offer the Associates vs the Diploma program. It makes me glad to hear that the professors at the school are professionals and treat their students with respect and try to really help them out. I've heard horror stories from graduates from other schools in other states. Good luck to those who just started and those planning to start. I will follow the theads and you gals keep posting your progress. It gives others the pleasure of knowing that they'll be in your spot one day.

Thanks,

Good luck Carmen! It will be your turn before you know it. I was working full time when I did my pre-reqs and it took me about 3.5 years to get them all done. The sciences I saved for toward the end since they aren't online. You will do fine if you want it bad enough. Just stay on top of your grades and stay motivated! You will find many women like yourself in the evening program. In my class I'm pretty sure we all have kids..minus 1 or 2 people. Most have kids and work and go to school. So you will be among people who understand your situation. Also in my class there is one girl who went to SAC and now she's at Baptist and she said Baptist is so much better, in her opinion. So anyway, good luck to you and you will have your RN before you know it. :nurse:

PS I just took my first test for OB/Pedi (second year, 1st semester) and I got an 'A'!!! Whoohooo!!!

Congrats on the A!! I am so glad to hear that I will be among people with similar situations when my time comes, we can feed off each other and stick together.

hey! for starters, good luck to everyone who applied! I applied for the pm and I am still waiting.....and waiting...

I work for baptist and when I got in I didnt have to do the gallup, thats a fairly new thing. Thats why they ask you questions as if you are already a nurse, because your suposed to be one to apply for a job there. I guess you just had to make up what you would answer if you were one. LOL

Coworkers who refered friends that applied say that its a top reason for NOT getting in if your personality "is not what they need/want".

My understanding is that IT IS a great deal, what the gallup test says about your personality. Its like saying...yeah, he/she is super smart and has gpa/teas way up high, but is very weak and doesnt have what it takes to be a great nurse, not OCD enough! hahaha...but thats just my understanding. Its my first time too.

has anyone recieved a denial/acceptance email? should I call to find out my status even though Crissies email said DONT CALL US, WE WILL CALL YOU?
