Hi, I was told by an acquaintance that interview invitations for spring 2011 BSN will handed out by september 20th.
THis does seem kind of early, but I haven't heard back from CSULB at all and so I was wondering when the interviews are. The CSULB lady has been very busy and hasn't gotten back to me.
Does anybody know if interview invitations have already been handed out for fall 2010 admissions?
Thanks!!!!
transfers are getting phone calls?? i'm a transfer and i was told that we would be notified whether or not we are admitted to the university around the same time we would find out if we are accepted into the nursing program. and we would get a letter, not a phone call. and the nursing faculty during the interview said to not call them about your admission status for the program.
Well...
Transfers have better grades (if you compare all the students that get interviewed/ get into the program) than CSULB pre-nursing students. Although it isn't really fair, because community colleges have easier classes (I've taken some GEs and now pharm and patho) and CSULB have tougher classes. This one girl at CSULB took all her nursing pre-reqs at community colleges and managed to get all As, but she took the required chem at CSULB and got a C.
I'm not saying all CC's have easier classes, but the professors at CCs do help their students by giving them extra credits, study guides, etc. My pharm and patho class have lecture videos online, which is a big help. Science courses at CSULB have tough professors whom most won't give extra credit, and sometimes won't provide you with study guides! Last Spring, many pre-nursing students were getting As in Microbio so the Microbio dept. was getting bashed for that (says instructor). Then the course got even tougher...
Anyways, all UCs and CSUs actually favor community college transfers. That's how our educational system works. If you have go to a cc and have a 3.5 GPA atleast, you can get into UCLA or USC. Higher education favors in this order 1)transfers from local cc. 2) high schools. 3) UC or CSU transfers to another UC or CSU. A guest speaker told me this a while ago.
AznBc105- wow, that is unfair.. I understand what u mean by how the cc classes are easier to get a better grade than in our school. I took some classes at cc for prereq too and the prof. Were giving lots of opportunities to do well in class. Hmm.. If the colleges prefer transfers over highschool students, people should just go to cc and save money then transfer with good grades + the preferences..
Nnoch001- well don't rely on what I said.. Cause I just heard that the nursing dept is calling to the transfer students to find out if they are accepted into the school. Also I heard that some people already got their replies back from the university.
But yeah.. My info is just from people talking
The official date of sending out letters for Spring 2011's nursing program is still unknown... blah!
1) This is due to "super seniors" and "super super seniors" who applied to the program. Apparently, the university has a problem with that, so the department needs the approval of the vice president... yeah... this is going to take forever!
2) Some people need to be reinterviewed again... I'm guessing from some people not being accepted into the university so there's more space available, therefore they're reinterviewing ppl that did not do so well & pick the best from there? I don't know... just guessing.
I guess being a CSULB student has some advantages... get to go over to the nursing department to see if the list of accepted students are up yet... talk to staff members & nursing students hanging around... and maybe find out some good news for yourself... hehehe! =X ....
Btw don't call the nursing department... I hear they're getting annoyed and it might prolong the process.
Did you guys apply to other nursing programs?
hseajin900- yeah... I should've just went to a cc first... could've ended up at UCLA with the grades I have now... but yeah I was really shocked when I found that out... it's not fair for ppl who work their butt off.
aznbc105 - so, the nursing program is trying to find out if the super seniors/super super seniors are allowed by the university to enter the nursing program? Hmm.. I guess there are lots of seniors. I noticed when I had an interview, 4 out of 6 were in the university for 4 years. I hope everything works out well for them too..
and how did you find out about they might recall for the interview? do you know when they are calling people back for the interview? I hope im not the one who failed the interview and have to do it again...
mann.. I wanna know the results right now
Oh, and I was actually thinking to transfer to UCLA if i dont get in this semester... they have the nursing program too, but transferring from CSU to UC is very hard. I heard CC to UC is a lot easier
lbchick32- I thought they told us 3 weeks after the interview?
Hmm, well acoording to aznbc 105, it seems like its gonna take a lot longer than 10-15 days.. D: bummer..
*yeah NO MORE calling the nursing department, like i said, they are very busy and annoyed cuz they have better things to do!*
hseajin900- i know this because i went to talk to them personally, that's the advantage of being a csulb student. i'm sure you're fine. even if you know your result/ status right now, it wouldn't even matter because it's unofficial. To UCLA? Don't you have to start applying/transferring now? I heard they only take 1 or 2 students from our school out of like 20 people.
lbchick32- yeah probably november 1...
so okay i just want to be clear - we should still find out november 1st? i got confused because you (aznbc105) were saying it was going to take longer, but now you say its november 1st which is what i was told it was...haha sorry this probably makes no sense. basically, it should still be november 1st? i'm just so tired of waiting, and my heart kinda fell when you said they were redoing interviews and stuff.

Want to become nurse - I'm a csulb student. Good luck ! I hope you get a good news soon :)
Lallen1231- oh wow, from our school students, 30% failed...?! That's crazy...
And those people who got in must be selected b/c of their well performance in prereq classes.. I hope it doesn't hurt me the fact that I'm already a student in csulb..
