ANybody recieved interviews for CSULB spring 2011?

U.S.A. California

Hi, I was told by an acquaintance that interview invitations for spring 2011 BSN will handed out by september 20th.

THis does seem kind of early, but I haven't heard back from CSULB at all and so I was wondering when the interviews are. The CSULB lady has been very busy and hasn't gotten back to me.

Does anybody know if interview invitations have already been handed out for fall 2010 admissions?

Thanks!!!!

I got an email yesterday requesting an interview. People who are considered for the next stage are supposed to be contacted via email this week.

Hope that helps, Good luck and God bless.

Yes, people got interviews. The admissions coordinator said that 20 csulb students did not contact her yet. Check your spam folder.

Hope that helps. Anymore questions, feel free to ask!

Do you know how many people got interviews? I hear varying numbers between 110 and 120, and I know only 90 are accepted. Thanks!

Yes. 102 are being interviewed so far. The admissions coordinator told me. This is of right now. Things might change with the restoration of budget funding...

Anything else? Feel free to ask! Good luck! I'm also on the same boat- hoping to get into Spring '11.

Do you know of some of the things they are considering doing because of the budget restoration? Someone told me they are considering letting more people in, which would be awesome haha.

What day is your interview? Mine is Monday October 11. I'm so nervous!

With the FULL restoration of budget funding (right now, we only have partial funding), more transfers will be admitted to the university. As for the nursing program, more transfers will be considered for interviews, ONLY if they're scores are good enough to beat out the current CSULB pre-nursing students' scores. The 90 spots are just based on whomever has the higher score.

I don't have an interview, because I've already completed the interview process last Spring- I was applying for Fall 2010, but didn't get accepted due to extrememly high scores from transfers and I had microbio in progress.

Good luck! Just know that the interview is just to test your communication skills. It only takes 30-45 mins and is a pass/fail. Plus the nursing coordinator already knows who are going to get into the 90 spots, like I said before, based on scores.

Haha sorry if I sound completely idiotic, but I'm still confused. So when the original emails for interviews went out, did transfers get them? Or are they getting them now since we know we can accept them?

Also (sorry for so many questions!), but you only ever have to do the interview once? Like if I don't get in this time, when I apply next I won't have to go through it again? And someone told me that the interviews don't make a difference in if you get in or not, so then why do they have more people then necessary interview?

Also, I have microbio in progress as well :/ do you think that's going to hurt me?

Transfers got emails because we had PARTIAL funding from the state, as in half or less of the money we would like. So instead of enrolling 50,000 students, CSUs can only take in 30,000 students cuz we only received a little bit of money and not the FULL amount we wanted.

The legislative hearing is at the end of October, and as you know, the new governor of California is going to be elected. Depending on the budget legislature and how dedicated the new governor is going to be for funding higher eduation, we may or may not receive the FULL funding (around $310 million). So if we do receive full funding, then that means more enrollment which leads to more transfers coming in for the nursing program. With me so far? I've heard from counselors (not nursing counselors) that usually it's 75% transfers that get into the program and 25% current CSULB students. They love transfers. Haha.

Depends if you're a current CSULB student. I'm a CSULB student, that's why I was on the alternate list for Fall 2010. CSULB students get to stay longer on the alternate list than transfers (they got taken out in August). I'm still on that list... like number 6 or something. That's why I didn't need to take the interview again- cuz I passed.

As in the previous message, scores are everything! The interview is just to see if you know how to speak English, follow and give instructions, and write about what you just watched. THE 90 SPOTS are ALREADY determined. They have more people than necessary to interview because the 90 people that do get in, not all of them would choose CSULB. Some of them may go to another nursing program (San Diego State, Loma Linda, San Francisco State, etc.). Plus there is a high tendancy of people dropping out of the nursing program because it's just TOO tough, and that's where the alternates come in.

For Fall 2010, I was an alternate.. which really sucked. There were 90 people who got in and 40 alternates. By the end of summer, it was down to 27 alternates- meaning some people who were alternates got into the program like my friend did (she was #7). Lucky.

I didn't get in because I had a score of 8.76 with the mircobio in progress. It may hurt your chances for sure because every point counts. My friend's score, who got in, had an 8.92. Just 0.16 difference and she was #7 on the alternate list while I was #38. Yup. I'm not trying to scare you, but thats what happened.

Good thing Spring isn't as tough to get into as Fall's. Good luck! Any more questions please feel free to ask!

Oh and to add to the second paragraph, the 90 spots are currently 50% transfers and 50% CSULB students. The 50% of transfers have really high scores. IF full funding is received, then it'll probably be 75% transfers and 25% CSULB students for the 90 spots, because they can take in more transfers that have high enough scores to beat out current CSULB student's scores. These transfers are freakn smart with really high scores.

ahh I'm scared!

I have the interview on Oct 11th at 9am !!!

so the interview isnt stressful right?

And thanks for the great info!!
