Any UCSF Mepn Applicants?

Published

Hi everyone--

Has anyone else out there applied to the UCSF MEPN program? They're supposed to send out letters this month (December) for the interview process. Has anyone gotten a letter yet? Will those that aren't asked to the interview process get a rejection letter now?

Crossing my fingers...!

No news in Michigan yet, but RooneyFan--I am intrigued by your user name. Are there any Rooneys in particular that are a fan of, or just the whole clan? I am about to become one! By the way, did anyone else apply for Acute Care? Did anyone hear?

It's killing me.

Wayne Rooney...random right? i think i made this account when i had just come back from study abroad in England and it was during the World Cup in the summer. So at the time i was a fan of his briefly. Is your fiance related? Congrats on getting married soon! =) and good luck, i'm sure your letter will come soon!

No news in Oregon yet. I was jittery at work all afternoon waiting to go check my mailbox and when I got home, nothing. I think these winter storms all over must be affecting the speed of snail mail. Oh well.... will have to distract myself for another morning and early afternoon.

I got an interview on Jan 16th for ANP!! I wasn't even thinking about it until today and came back to read this thread when I got the envelope. I was prepared for a rejection when I got home, but I was so excited when I opened the letter and the first word that stood out was Congratulations! I was actually in shock and wondered for a moment if I was dreaming :chuckle.

Hope to see some of you on interview day. I live about a 10 minute drive away and work in research at UCSF. I walk through the nursing building everyday, so I know my way around and good places to park if anyone is interested. Now I just hope I don't screw up the interview...

Also I don't know why I got my letter today (Monday) rather than Saturday... I live so close.

Good luck to the rest of you!!!

Hey all,

Boston's mail made it yesterday...and I'm interviewing for pediatrics on the 23rd! I know some of you will be there the same day, so I hope to see you...any other peds on that day? I've seen a couple for the 16th...

Good luck OR, MI, TX!

Congrats el-do and v517! Still waiting in San Antonio!

No mail yet, and it is getting really rough to wait. I just need to know so I can let the crying/rejoicing begin.

I didn't get an interview and I am very sad. I would really appreciate any advice about other programs in the bay area, since I am determined to do this.

hello all,

congrats to those who've gotten good news in the mail; also good job and chin up to those who

didn't. i'm sure everyone has worked hard to get to this point. i applied to the fnp track. like

others, i've been following the chat...but stupid superstition (and a lack of anything to share but

sheer anxiety) kept me from posting before.

i'm writing now to see if there's anyone else in california who still has yet to get any type of letter.

i live on the central coast, and by my own careful calculation, should have received something

on monday, at latest. and still nothing today. i broke down and called the student affairs office.

they curtly informed me that they will not have a thing to say to me until "after the break."

i.e. after christmas! sheesh. is anyone else in my same situation? just knowing someone else was

thinking of finding out the news on christmas eve would make me feel better somehow.

happy holidays to everyone. and best of luck!

to judeyrooney: there are tons of options for folks interested in pursuing nursing in the bay area.

none are as highly esteemed as ucsf, and most are more expensive. these are some places i've

also considered: univ. of sf, sf state, and samuel merritt. there's also some cna and health

educator certificates through the city college, if you wanted to get your feet wet first in a

hospital. best of luck in the bay area! it's a great place.

In response to kflagg: I am in East Oakland and am still waiting for a reply! I'll be (hopefully) hearing with you on Xmas eve too!

Good luck and happy waiting!

judyrooney, you're so strong for posting right after getting your mail! when i got my rejection letter I didn't even call my parents or answer their phone call! i rode my bike to the beach instead.

it stinks being rejected.

I'm applying to the USF CNL program - it's a masters' program. You get your RN in about 18 months, and a CNL degree isn't really specialized, I mean, it seems like you'd pretty much be an RN. it costs about 70k, but in sf you make so much as a nurse that you'd be able to pay it off in a few years or so.

I might apply to the SF State program as well, you can't become a NP but a CNS. This one is about 3 years.

Check them out online! The deadlines are Feb 15 and Feb 1, respectively.

At Samuel Merritt, you have to have taken patho and some other class that they normally teach in nursing school... but it's in oakland so it would be close to you.

don't worry, and as my (awesome) roommate said, "You'll find out eventually what it's good for. I'm sure everything will work out, as long as you're not resentful"
