Any UCSF Mepn Applicants?

Published

Hi everyone--

Has anyone else out there applied to the UCSF MEPN program? They're supposed to send out letters this month (December) for the interview process. Has anyone gotten a letter yet? Will those that aren't asked to the interview process get a rejection letter now?

Crossing my fingers...!

code blue where are you taking your microbiology class?

Hi Hopeful Nurse,

I don't know where you live, but I am taking microbiology spring semester at Berkeley City College. I think that Merritt (in oakland) offers it too. I have a friend (another hopeful nurse) who took it at Berkeley city college this fall and loved the professor, so I am hoping that it will be a good class.

Hello Raysm310,

I actually just finished my microbiology final yesterday. :D I was just curious as to where codeblue took the class.

Merritt offers it, but I think the classes are really expensive, like those Patho and Pharm classes.

I took my microbio at kapiolani community college :) it's out of state. The admin probably decided to send out the letters this week because they don't want to deal w/ phone calls after the decision.

Hello all!

I'm new to the site. I applied to UCSF MEPN for a specialty in midwifery. My husband and I are actually going out of state for the holidays and are leaving tomorrow - so I'm concerned that my letter will arrive while we're gone, and I won't be able to get it until a week late. I haven't been very nervous, but now that it's getting closer, the anxiety is starting to rise.

just nervously checked the mail and nothing. stay strong!

Hey I hear you - I'm in Montreal, and I'll be out of town until early January. I'd really rather avoid letting my roommate open my letter and email me with what it says. Hopefully when someone gets a positive invite they'll let us all know the time line for responding so we know if it's ok to let it sit or necessary to find the information out sooner.

I'm sorry to hear about those that are going to be out of town for the holidays. Either way good luck to all of you. I too am nervous. Maybe tomorrow...

Hi starr77,

Wow, thanks for the info on the achin specialty... do you know if the program having problems only due to lack of faculty, or if there are other factors? i applyed to this specialty since the majority of my professional experience is with community organizations, and i would like to continue on this path. hopefully the program will stabilize!

Okay, first of all, I need to apologize. I know how stressed you all are, and I did not want to contribute to the stress. I hope you all find exactly what you want and need. Many of us entered this program wanting to go back to our roots and do what we love.

Secondly, I screwed up.

It wasn't the ACHIN program that was troubled - it was the ANP with Integrated Health/Complimentary medicine focus, not community/international health that had problems, so I blew it. I am so sorry. The acronyms get me as much as anyone- we're all in such different specialties (unless you're FNP and 40 other people are in the same program) that it gets tough to keep track. I truly apologize for any undue stress or misinformation. I'm usually very careful, and I'm very sorry.

In any case- my MEPN buddy is in the integrated health pathway and was very frustrated by her experiences, so I have been pretty fired up about it (I'll explain MEPN buddy later). Again, I deeply apologize for any unnecessary stress.

Relax for now, and may your letters come swiftly. If you have questions about interviewing or want to meet for coffee before your interview if you get one, feel free to PM me. Best of luck to all of you!

Hugs,

Star:D

charmed I too will be out of town for the holidays on monday night. Hopefully my letter will get here by then. If not, i'd have to wait until the 30th when I get home.

Just curious did anyone take nutrition and chemistry for their prereqs. I am debating whether i should take these courses in the spring or just read ahead on pharmacology and patho. If I am not invited to UCSF, I have two more schools to look forward to. Well good luck everyone. Thanks Star for taking out of your busy time to give us your thoughts of the program.

I just finished up taking nutrition for my pre-reqs at my school - it was really tough but absolutely amazing, I highly recommend it but only if you can find a good program (I know they vary a lot). I've also done two years of chemistry (required for my program) - I do think they're good to know, especially organic (plus because it has such a rep for being a weed out class doing well makes you really sure you can handle science). That said, I haven't found it especially useful in my physiology or anatomy classes, it really comes in handy more at the biochemical level which I do not think (unfortunately) that nursing really gets into.

Urg, one more final exam to go then I can finally go home! I hope I get my letter today but I'm guessing that's almost impossible so I'll just have to wait and see when I get back in January...
