Hi everyone--
Has anyone else out there applied to the UCSF MEPN program? They're supposed to send out letters this month (December) for the interview process. Has anyone gotten a letter yet? Will those that aren't asked to the interview process get a rejection letter now?
Crossing my fingers...!
I called and the lady said "Within a week a or two". Yikes! I won't be home.
two weeks?! I thought the online application would make it faster to process, not slower. So will arrive just before Christmas. Not very nice. It can your holidays brighter or other way.
I really hoped that letters would come the middle of this week:(
I am willing to bet that its not going to be a week or two...but its probably a generically canned response to try and prevent repeat callers. (I know more than a few people who would probably call every single day; especially if they'd been told it would arrive on "Tuesday" and it didn't)
I do have to admit, I am really seriously disappointed in the whole admissions process. Their lack of any concrete info for applicants throughout the process has given me some concerns about the program in general. Having been fortunate enough to participate in a couple of grad programs already I can honestly say this has been the least applicant friendly process I've been through.
]Hello out there,
applied, waiting, ran like seven miles today to take my mind off the mail.
presently feeling very empathetic to my children as they bite their nails and pick their noses while waiting for turns during Yhatzee!
on the positive side this board seems very committed to getting into nursing school.
keep on keepin' on.
and to all you fellow doulas out there in the bay area.....WORD!

I totally agree with this post! I called several times before the application was due and it was like pulling teeth. You know, a women honestly told me they don't keep statistics on who applies for/is accepted in each specialty, couldn't give much of anything about program requirements and was dumbfounded when I asked how the inception of an online process still leads to a situation where applicants wait and wait and then wait some more. My opinion is they are trying to act like their program has some top secret method they don't want to get out as if what they do is proprietary and if we get in we will have to sign non-disclosure waivers, too funny because this program (in terms of courses and clinicals) is just like the rest....in California at least...can't say I know about the differing requirements of state boards across the nation!
That being said it is all about supply and demand. 700-800 people vying for 70-90 spots in a given year unfortunately puts the power to be dumb and not helpful in the hands of those at UCSF making the decision.
That also being said, for as frustrating as the wait and process are you know we will all gladly accept the interview even if the word came on January 18th for an interview on the 19th and we lived in Maine. But, if I don't get a interview and you do and you feel disenfranchised by the process then tell UCSF that you want to give up your interview spot and mention my name as a replacement....lol....
Good luck everyone, hopefully the wait will be worth it for all of you and you will be one step closer to pursuing your dreams!!

:monkeydance:
You're exactly right on this point and in UCSF's defense, they aren't the only nursing program whose admissions process seems a little "snobby." In a national environment where there are so many more applicants than there are available spots its natural that schools would be in the power seat.
Nonethless, I can think of dozens of programs (medical schools, MBA programs, etc.)with similar levels of popularity, who still manage to be open and forthright with candidates....
Ultimately, most of us probably will be excited to get interviews and will be thrilled if we're accepted...but I hope everyone will keep our current levels of frustration in mind and will provide feedback to the administration in an appropriate time and place.
I have to agree that people in the UCSF's Admissions Office are not too helpful in the admissions process. i think the fact that UCSF is ranked the 2nd nationally makes them a little arrogant.
It may not work for other people, but I try not to stress myself over this. It's either I get it or I don't. I know that if I didn't get in (or didn't get an interview for that matter), then it's their loss. I know you guys are all great people and have great capacities to be NP's; but hey, there are only 80 spots available for 800 people applied.
As a bit of a distraction I thought I'd post the link to a blog for a fairly new FNP who is already in practice...its hilarious! (Or at least I think so)

That's my thought too. I work in an academic institution right now and this is our "power week". The students are gone now, grades are in, so everyone's working on all the other details that fall by the wayside at the end of the semester. I'm willing to bet they are having lots of meetings and wrapping things up right now. I'm pretty sure no one wants to be in the office or meetings next week!
I have to be the voice of dissent and say that I found the admissions office very helpful during my application process. Whenever I called they answered my questions politely and gave a little advice when appropriate. You have to remember that they probably have a small admissions staff and get a high volume of phone calls due to the large number of applicants.

Well, that's good to hear. I'm agonizing too, but I'm sure the UCSF staff are not intentionally being sadistic bastards. There's nothing more frustrating than the phone ringing all day when you need to be getting other sh*t done! Of course, I *do* agree they could do more to communicate with their applicants - Yale held awesome online chats, UW at least has a 'admissions update' blog, but oh well. I have to remember that theirs is not a job I would want, especially this time of year, and that I just gotta wait.
Of course, the real concern is if this is larger symptom of how the program is run/how they treat their students, but those of us who do manage to get interviews will get hopefully get a better sense of that.

Thanks, TippyToo! This is a good distraction!

Eek! Well I guess that saves me from having to hide the letter until my Physiology final is over...
