Hi everyone--
Has anyone else out there applied to the UCSF MEPN program? They're supposed to send out letters this month (December) for the interview process. Has anyone gotten a letter yet? Will those that aren't asked to the interview process get a rejection letter now?
Crossing my fingers...!
hey everyone!
I was just wondering if there were any others that chose the ANP-PMHCNS track (Integrated Adult Nurse Practitioner and Psychiatric CNS)? I'm curious to know how many they usually accept in this track. I just finished my application, sent it in yesterday, and whew! That is a load off my shoulders. Now if I can get through Anatomy and Physiology......

I'm applying to the ANP/Psych CNS track, too. It looks like there are at least two other people on this board applying to the track, according to previous posts. Good luck!
I locked my application just before midnight last night - feeling a little paranoid about the Oct 1 deadline :-).
Now, to study for an Anatomy quiz and lab practical, both this week.
I locked my application in at 1:30 Friday morning. Didn't want to wait until the very last minute.
I've heard the number of people they accept are a lot of times based on the number of field placements available for hands on experience. Historically there have not been that many psych placements, coupled with not that many people applying for this concentration, has pretty much kept the number of accepted students fairly small.
Won't know anymore until early next year though. Taking A/P as a refresher course just to "bone up" on form and function. May take a more concentrated course next semester.
Good Luck everyone.
I locked my application at 12:03 this morning! It said on the website that applications started by Oct 1st would still be able to be locked after the deadline and that there was no advantage to locking early, so I took the time I needed Getting that essay down to the "approximately 2 pages" was tough!
I applied to the nurse-midwifery track. I have no idea about the competitiveness of the specific tracks though, we'll see what happens! Good luck everyone!

I took the same tack and locked my app on Sunday. You are right - whittling down the essay to two'ish pages was a Herculean task. But it is done.
My understanding is that Nurse Midwife is about as competitve as it gets. But why worry about that now? You have three months to wait before you find out if you get an interview! Stressing over the competitiveness of the program will not get you an interview.
I applied to Trauma/Critical Care CNS. It is pro'lly "less competitive" than midwife but I think the whole thing is pretty selective.
Elite programs in very discipline get far more applicants than they can take. Bearing this mind I am trying not too get worked up about the process. Yeah, it will be most unpleasant if I am not admitted but the world will not end.
And now that we have hurried up, we wait.
Yeah, I try not to get too caught up in how "competitive" the program is. I figure I have the experience I have, I've written the best essay I can, and I've gotten great recommendations, and if that's not what they're looking for...their loss!
I see a lot of people on different boards get too worked up about graduate admissions and I'm just not interested in stressing myself out that way. I feel like there are enough options for me to become a midwife that if this doesn't work out, I'll find another way!
Good luck to you too!

And frankly I think there is a chunk of it that is luck. You are right -there are many ways for us to reach our goals. I started this journey 5 years ago. I did not have an undergrad degree. These years have taught me the value of patience and persistence. If it cant get up the hill on this path i will find another or cut a new one if I need to.
I started MEPN this summer and it has been pretty intense. During the week, your days are pretty much filled with either classes or clinicals. I would say the first quarter was more intense than this quarter (in 2nd quarter now), probably because I was still adjusting to being a student again and figuring out how to get through all of the reading required. Good luck to you all. It's a huge wait game...
Have they responded to anybody yet? I worked so hard on this application. I know everyone here probably has superb GPA and GRE scores. I applied with a 3.00 GPA and below 500 GRE scores. My work experiences, volunteer services, and recommendation letters are however superb. Am I worried? Yes and no. Good luck everyone!

Do you think it's necessary to send them a copy of my published research project that I was involved in (it's clinically related)? I did send them a copy but I'm just curious if they would bother looking at it.
