Any UAB NP students/graduates?

Published

I am considering applying to UAB online either ANP or ACNP and was wondering if anyone could comment on the program? How do they like it? How much time committed per week? Full or part-time? Is the faculty readily available to help/answer questions? Also, I'm having a difficult time deciding between ANP or ACNP. Is it true that if you are ACNP you can sit for the ANP test as well? I'm leaning towards ANP, but have 8+ years in SICU, so thinking ACNP would be better suiting. However, I'm thinking about post-graduation and finding a job and having reasonable hours with no call. Anyone have any thoughts?

thanks for the info, makes me very hopeful to get accepted fall 2011!!

I am applying for Fall 2011 at UAB for FNP. I am thinking of taking classes this summer as a non-degree graduate student to get ahead. Has anyone else done this? Any advice on what classes to take ahead of time or any advice at all on UAB's program would be VERY appreciated!! Thanks

I absolutely loved my education at USA!!! I cannot say enough about it. Of course, I was in the PNP program. I passed my certification exam without any difficulty. I felt like I got a very good education. And, it was very affordable!!! I hope this helps. I only know of one person who went through the DNP/PNP at UAB and they said it was more like a PhD program than a DNP....more research/papers than the clinical focus it is supposed to be.

I have to agree with you. I thought they (USA) taught me very well and I learned a lot. I asked questions about various things during my program and didn't get a negative response. I am planning to go back for more education from them. I received my MSN: Child Health/ PNP and loved the program! I did have to study for my certification exam....I don't think they just teach to the test. They say what is mostly on there which is what your degree is focused around. Anyway, it sounds like things are going well....kudos to you! Keep up the great work! :yeah:

I have applied to the FNP Program at UAB. The application deadline was May 27. Does anyone know how long it takes to find out if you got in? I plan to go FT. I'm biting my fingernails & looking in the mailbox daily for a yes/no letter. Answers anyone???

Hey NurseAbby 28! I'm in the same boat right now waiting on my admission status (been checking the mail like I'm waiting on a big tax refund check). From what I've seen in other posts, we should hear something by next week and definitely something by the end of the month. Hang in there and hopefully the the wait is almost over and an acceptance letter is waiting on us at the end!:)

Thanks JSoupyERnurse! I just saw that I had an email from UAB stating my application status was complete (it was no longer under review). Now I'm REALLY pulling my hair out. Hope we both get our acceptance letters soon. Best of luck to you. :D

My application says the same! I hope that means that we are in!!

Hi Everyone. Update here...I just called UAB's SON and they stated that the committee was SUPPOSED to meet last week to pick the candidates for the Fall 2011 program and they did NOT meet. The lady stated they are meeting at the end of THIS week and that we should then hear in approx 2-3 weeks. I know, not what I wanted to hear either but at least it gives us an idea and we aren't checking the mail like crazy right now expecting something! Let's hope we all got in!

Thanks so much for the update erin801. That's a bummer to learn that they weren't able to meet last week, but I've been patient this long so I can handle waiting a bit more I guess:uhoh3:. I recieved an e-mail last Thur.s that let me know that my application was complete so I just assumed that they were done reviewing everything and that I would hear something soon:idea:. Maybe the process won't take too much longer. From previous posts, I've read that once the applications were reviewed, the letters were usually recieved pretty quickly. Hopefully it will be the same for us. Well, fingers crossed and wishing us all good luck:).

Thanks for keeping us posted, erin801. Although it's not the news I was hoping for, at least I know not to be chomping at the bits everyday when I go to the mailbox. Hopefully we will all get our acceptance letters before too much longer. :coollook: Let us know if you find out anything else.

Just something to keep in mind since they are being extra slow this year, you might want to make a Dr. appt for early July if it might take a while to get in. You have to have a medical clearance form filled out and turned in along with all of the vaccine and TB stuff in order to register for classes. The student health office gets completely overwhelmed trying to process everyone's stuff at the last minute, so the early you get it in the more likely you are to be able to register for classes before they start and while there are still open spots.
