Samford University FNP Program?
bsnanat2, I'm not sure about the scholarships since I just found out I got in this week. I contacted Samford about applying for the January term, and got a prompt reply that they were still accepting applications for the fall term. If you go to the website & click on the FNP program, you will see whom to contact. My dealings with this institution, thus far, have been WONDERFUL. The staff is super-helpful. Hope this helps.

So, are you planning on applying to Samford, bsnanat2? They may still be taking applications for fall admission.

Samford University FNP Program?
I have an interview for Samford's FNP Program this coming week. Any suggestions? I'm excited about my interview, but a little nervous. I really hope to get in for this fall. I've heard so many good things about Samford's various programs (nursing and non-nursing), and I would LOVE to have the opportunity to continue my education at this institution.

Any UAB NP students/graduates?
Have you thought about CRNA? That program is about 2.5 years as well. I know the rejection is tough, but it makes you a stronger, more determined individual. It makes me want to try that much harder. It would be nice if someone from an academic institution would give me some guidance in which areas to make improvement. Oh well, such is life. Keep me posted on what you're doing. Hopefully this last letter you're waiting on will give you the answer you want. If not, you'll find where you're supposed to be...

Any UAB NP students/graduates?
Yes, I am a resident of Alabama. In fact, I live only about 45min-1hr from the UAB campus. I know a few people that have gone to Troy University for their NP and they speak highly of their program. I was just looking at their website & will possibly try there. I was hoping to go FT, but since that is only offered with fall admission, I may have to just wind up going PT. I wish now that I had listened to my husband and applied everywhere for NP. He said "don't put all your eggs in one basket" but I did....I applaude you for continuing your education as a single parent. I was a single parent working FT and going to school FT when I got my ADN. It's tough, but it can be done if the determination is there. I've thought about med school, also. I've looked into it, but don't think I want to put that kind of time into something at this point in my life. Just curious...why PA? Keep your chin up, it will all work out for the best in the long run

You and I are in the same boat, CCRNDiva. I also got my denial letter with the option to reactivate my application. I wish they would give us a contact person who would let us know what we could do in order to strengthen our applications. I was confident my application was pretty competitive. My last 60hrs of nursing courses has GPA 4.0. I have eight years of nursing experience with five of those in critical care (with the past three years in CVICU). Not sure of my overall GPA, but I'm pretty sure it's either a low A or high B. I've cried with frustration feeling like I've let my family down. I have two children (12 and 16) and I've been in school on and off since they were 15months and 6 years. I don't want to give up, because my husband and I have tried to teach our children that when life knocks you down, you've gotta get back up to be the bigger man, but I REALLY feel like throwing in the towel. Not really sure what I'm going to do now. I think I'll retake my A&P courses (since I got C's in those about 13-14 years ago), then figure out which avenue I'm going to take. There are other NP schools where you can apply. Several of my coworkers are going to USA (University of South Alabama). Sorry some of us didn't get in. I know I'm SUPER disappointed. We just have to keep swimming....

Congrats levoxine!! I know you're excited!! Meanwhile, I'm biting my nails, pulling my hair, & wearing out my mailbox. My letter hasn't come & I live only about 45min-1hr from Birmingham... . Best of luck to you!!!

I agree that it's totally insane that we haven't heard anything yet. Classes start Aug. 16. It's frustrating to NOT know anything at this point. This means that those of us that get in have less than a month to get all financial aid paperwork, physical paperwork, and whatever else they require. This is in addition to our work and family responsibilities (children starting back to school, etc.)....

Community College? You must be stupid.
I received my ADN at a community college, then a few years later my BSN at a larger university. I wouldn't trade anything for what I learned at my C.C. There were several hospitals in my area that would hire an ADN as a new nurse as opposed to a BSN because of our quality of pt. care. I was told that the BSN new grads were more management-focused & less attention & detail was given to the patient. I never really understood why until I went back to complete my BSN. Those courses are largely managment-based. Thankfully, I already had my patient-care background & that wasn't about to change just because I was learning about the $$ end of my profession. As I embark on my FNP degree, I am proud to say that I received a firm foundation as a registered nurse from a local community college. Not only has it made financial sense, but I feel that I was able to grasp the key concepts to good patient care because of my smaller classes & more detail-oriented instructors. Best of luck to you in all your educational & professional endeavors

Tragic end for dedicated nurse
This is just an example of just how stressful nursing can be. I pray none of us ever have to live with the guilt of causing harm to a patient. How sad
