Any TWU Spring 2006 applicants??

U.S.A. Texas

I'm just wondering if anyone out there has applied for the TWU Spring 2006 class?? Anybody know how many applications they have received? How many they are planning on accepting?

Wow. That sucks. It is kind of discouraging. I have the GPA, but I still have many classes to go. I could earn 2 more Bs and still have above a 3.8 (and I'll likely need one of them for statistics, shudder). It's just, I dunno sometimes I feel overwhelmed by the pressure. I'm a full time student and mother of 3, well two with one on the way. The thought that I could work this hard, earn a 3.8 or 3.9 and still not get in that just makes me feel so discouraged. My whole family is sacrificing for this. I won't give up because I've already worked too hard, I 'll go into the ADN program if I have to and then work on a BSN later, but that's not my dream. You know?

BTW I didn't mean to sound accusatory, I appreciate the advice, I guess I'm just a bit amazed. Is the medical school even that competitive? Maybe I should settle for being a doctor :chuckle

ETA: Why is it I hear so few people talking about the Prarieview A&M program? I'd think with the other two being so competitive, that Prarieview would get tons of applications too. I've seen their NCLEX pass rates, they aren't stellar, but they aren't horrid either. I'm just not ready to rule anyone out, well except the Baptist university since I'm not Christian.

Does the TWU program have an accelerated BSN in Dallas or just in Houston?

These stories you keep hearing are absolutely for real.....it is at the point of near impossible for students to get into a nursing school today without a 4.0. I am not telling you this because I want you to be discouraged...just informed.

I was talking with a Dean of Nursing the other day and this is exactly what she said about this topic. "Schools are concerned with 2 things...#1 is too many applicants for teacher ratio and not enough clinical slots (hospitals only allow each school so many students there), #2 is that their NCLEX pass rate." They make sure to accept the highest GPA because it CAN be indicative of NCLEX pass rate....I'm not sure I believe that but that's what the schools think. I hope this helps you.

I was accepted to a 4-year school in Tennesse with a 3.17 GPA. I can start this January and it's my first time applying. You will get in if that's what God intends for you to do. Don't worry about the competition. Hey, if all else fails, move to TN.

Just in Houston.

a TWU rep I spoke with a few weeks ago told me that they had the accelerated BSN program at Dallas now too. She might have not known what she was saying but it's always worth it to just check with the school itself.

As for the other comments, I just got accepted into El Centro College which is through Dallas County Community College District and the GPA accepted at El Centro was 4.0 pre-reqs and 4.0 support courses. It was unreal!! It changes every semester too so there's not really anyway to count on something.

To my knowledge (I'm a student there too) they do not have the accelerated program in Dallas, but are looking at getting it going if it isn't already in the works. I have heard talk, but no definates yet - still worth calling to check though.

Has anyone received their eligibility or acceptance letters yet???

Specializes in Med-Surg.

I'm in Austin TX and I recieved my Acceptance Letters last Thursday and Fri. :balloons:

Now to decide which school.

I received my acceptance letter on Wednesday last week. It did not say what the minimum GPA was.

Good luck!

Congrats, egriffin and chris!! :balloons:

which campus will you two be attending?

Specializes in Med-Surg.

I'll be going to Houston.

When I'm there for the Net test next week I'll start looking for someplace to live for the spring semester.

-redefinition- I see you're at Houston, is there any place on campus or in the med center that I can look to find a sublet or a place to share for the spring semester? I didn't know if there was a board somewhere I could check.

There's no on-campus housing. The apartments I'm in are decently priced if you have a roommate [about 900 for a 2 bed, 2 bath] and they are right across the street from a metrorail stop - which is the most convenient way to campus. They're called Archstone Medical Center.
