Any specialty type LVN's ?? what's yours?

I was a LPN for 7 years; I worked with vent adults as children, Rehab (spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury), and Home Health. I also conducted medical chart reviews, classified as nursing informatics, another specialty. I also was IV therapy competent, accessed PICC lines and Broviacs. I also did wound care.

My specialty is only geriatrics ..ltc.....dementia...Alzheimer's ...sundowners.....my specialty is caring for those that spit and kick....why u may ask??..because I love it.....the pay is OK...20 bucks a hour.....but I moved to city from rural Ohio and made 14 for doing the same thing.....and I want to go back....cause I also love being who I am....a hillbilly..also I know there will be more and more diagnosis of Alzheimer's and dementia related to baby boomers getting it...I'll always have plenty of work..and honestly I don't think the majority of these young nurses that graduate want to go into that type of nursing.....godbless

Thanks everyone for your great stories!I love to read the expansion of beingA LVN than the norm. (No offense) :)Anyone does private duty pediactrics vent?? I read there's a vent training that's required to be certified but you have to have g-tube/trach experience first. How can Lvn student gain that while in school?I currently work as a cna at a rehab Hospital. Psych and CD "chemical dependency'

I worked in PD Peds with vents; you have to be a LPN/LVN first; or needs to be extensive as well.

I love hearing when LVNs find something they really gravitate to and specialize in it. I feel like it really helps you stand out. I specialize in Ophthalmology, generally surgical Ophthalmology. There are not a lot of LVNs in this field and I think it's helped me career wise.

I am a Hyperbaric Nurse (LVN), which is what I was trained to do in the Air Force minus the nursing license. I make $30.00 per hour as a VA private contractor. There are certainly not many nurses that specialize in Hyperbaric Medicine so I think it's much more lucrative than a garden variety nurse (LVN or RN).

I got my trach/vent traing through the home care agency that I worked at; they sent me to a trach/vent class at an outside agency for four days. I then had an additional 16 hours with a seasoned T/V nurse.

I presently work at the VA in Long Beach. I got my experience in the Air Force. In fact, I went to nursing school to do something different. When I graduated I couldn't find a job so I applied for an RN Hyperbaric Nurse position. I think I was the only one who applied so I got the job. Like I said, it's a pretty small career field.

I treat six patients a day for 90 minutes each. I do Vitals and BGL's prior to tx, then put them in the chamber and monitor them. During the tx's I usually have dressing changes and wound care scheduled w/ other pt's. Sometimes I do oxygen tension studies as well. I work from 0730 to 1600.
