Any Santa Fe CC RN grads or students out there?

U.S.A. Florida

Hello,

I was just wondering if there were any SFCC RN grads or students out there that could give me some insight into the program? I have only heard great things. I have put in my application, but I hear that a lot of people don't get in the first try, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up. I already have my BS and applied to UF's accel BSN but did not make the cut. I really hope to get in at SFCC the first time around. Thanks to anyone who answers, its greatly appreciated!

If you were accepted what was your total points, if you don't mind saying?

When did you find out you were accepted? Was it earlier than what they told you?

How are the faculty?

When do you start clinicals?

Overall experience at SFCC program? I'm biased since I did get my AA from here.

Thanks again,

Monty78

Jenn,

I had a hold on my records, so they couldn't register me yet. I have to call Scott tomorrow to let him know to register me. They needed my current transcripts from UF, but yet they didn't need them when I took classes for a year, strange. I did register for nutrition, its an online course, I'm sure it will be ok.

What sec did you get registered for? If you go to register for classes on eSantafe and click on nursing programs (I think) it will bring up the Nursing processes 1 sections with instructors listed.

I have to get a physical, immunizations and the CPR class done still. How are things coming along for you?

I'm so excited and nervous at the same time.

See you at orientation!

shandsburnrn,

Thanks for the information. I plan to do a lot of studying. Yeah, I was pretty down about not getting into UF, but then talked to someone in the ABSN program and I'm glad I didn't get in. He said they've had 6 people drop out already (they started in May) and that they are very disorganized. Wishes he would have applied to SFCC.

How do you like working at Shands? Good luck, I hope you get into the CRNA program at Barry. Question, how are you paying for all this school? I'm so stressed about taking loans.

Thanks again for the info.,

Monty

Monica,

Nur1020C is not viewable on e-santa fe (register for classes). I wanted to find out who my professor will be, so I could go to ratemyprofessor.com :) ... They were supposed to register us on the 24th. I'll be doing my physical/immunizations in Miami and I took the Cpr course 2 wks ago. Everything is going well, I'm going to the book store on Tuesday to write down the isbn of books required. I want to purchase my books online. Keep in touch. Later

Jenn

Jenn,

I was registered for my class and I'm in sec 01. The professor is Hutton, on ratemyprofessor.com she got mostly good reviews, so that's reassuring. What sec are you in and I'll look up the professor?

I get my immunizations on Friday and take the CPR course on 8/18 so I won't be able to go to the social thing that day. The other dates I wanted were already full.

Are you going to get your books on-line? I'm sure you can find them cheaper. I know they are bound to be very expensive at the book store.

Talk to you later,

Monica

I'm in sec 8, and yeah I'm planning on purchasing my books on-line. I won't be able to attend the get-together on 18th as well; I'll be in Miami (immunizations, dental cleaning, and vision appt.)

Jenn

PS: Are you planning on joining study groups?

Hi Jenn,

Section 08 instructor is Turner, no first name listed.

I also need to set up a vision appointment. I have to get all my doctor's visits out of the way now.

I think joining a study group would be a good idea for me, but I can't really stay much after classes because I'll be working and having to get home to my family. I'm sure people will set them up though.

Will you be working while taking classes? I will try to work part-time, I just hope I'm not taking too much on at once.

Later,

Monica

Thanks, for finding out who my professor is. I looked her up on ratemyprofessor.com and she only has 3 ratings; anyhow they are good ratings. I’ll be working on weekends (13hrs) only for a measly $8.00 hr. $400 a month, at least it’s something. However, I’m already in dept and I’m welcoming more of it.:) Regrettably as of right now I’m not receiving any financial aid because I have a previous AA degree. I have filed an appeal and hopefully the committee accepts it.

Don’t worry; we should be fine working part time. I have to come home to a husband too, but luckily I don’t have kids. I couldn’t imagine how I would find time to manage work, school, kids, and a bragging husband…. geeezzz just shoot me.

PS. this is what makes us future nurses strong !

Jenn,

No problem, I'm glad she got good ratings that's a good sign. My professor had mostly good, but a few bad reviews. I think the point was she is tough, but helpful and straight forward.

You should be able to get Federal loans through financial aid. I have a bachelors and got a fed loan, not much at all, but at least enough to cover my tuition, books, etc. I had to appeal also, it was simple and they approved it within a few days. I have to warn you that some people at financial aid are willing to help and others not, so if you're not getting the anwers you need talk to someone different.

I've heard from a nursing student (threw my husband) that she works at AGH at Shands and makes $10.00/hour and can work on weekends whatever hours they need her for. She works as a nurse tech or PCA, something like that. Might be something for you to look into, at least more money and flexibility.

I'm hoping to get in some hours where I'm working now after classes. I would at least like to work 15-20 per week. Working during the weekends is out since my husband works the weekends and I have to take care of our daughter.

I know all this hard work will pay off, but I just worry because I don't want to screw up in my classes because of taking too much on. If I feel overwhelmed then I'll just not work and take out more loans.

Talk to you later,

Monica
