Any Santa Fe CC RN grads or students out there?

U.S.A. Florida

Hello,

I was just wondering if there were any SFCC RN grads or students out there that could give me some insight into the program? I have only heard great things. I have put in my application, but I hear that a lot of people don't get in the first try, so I'm trying not to get my hopes up. I already have my BS and applied to UF's accel BSN but did not make the cut. I really hope to get in at SFCC the first time around. Thanks to anyone who answers, its greatly appreciated!

If you were accepted what was your total points, if you don't mind saying?

When did you find out you were accepted? Was it earlier than what they told you?

How are the faculty?

When do you start clinicals?

Overall experience at SFCC program? I'm biased since I did get my AA from here.

Thanks again,

Hmmm I believe I had 19/23 because I live in Abq and I don't get points for living in their tax base.

When did you find out you were accepted? Was it earlier than what they told you? I applied March 10 and received letter on April 1st and it really wasn't a joke! So yes it was earlier than anticipated

How are the faculty?

Faculty is good. Hard and attempts at support are seen. Some lack in student advocacy but overall good experiences. Not enough bad to not recommend the program

When do you start clinicals?

You will start clinicals your first semester since you will already have CNA stuff behind you to apply.

Experience overall has been good. The program is strong. I will be graduating in May and have already had many offers. The students from the program seem to be readily accepted. The program is spoken highly of.

If you had good grades in your pre reqs you should be pretty competitive. Good luck

UF.....Go Gators!

Mrsalby,

I'm not sure we are thinking the same program. Its the ASN program at SFCC in Gainesville, FL. They do have a points system, but nothing based on where you live. I have not been accepted yet, I hope to be! They have a 100 point system and so far I have 75 points. 10 points is given to people who have applied before, so really 90 points for first time applicants.

I would have liked to attend the Accelerated BSN at UF, but it didn't work out. If I don't get in to SFCC I'll work for another year and reapply, but not to UF. I've only heard good things about Santa Fe and would love to attend that program.

Good luck to you!

Hey Monty,

This is my second time applying to the SFCC program. When I first applied I only had 76 pts ; I was placed on alternate status, unfortunately I did not get accepted. The cutoff last year was 78.This past spring, I decided to take Medical Terminology for the extra 2 pts and the critical thinking exam again. I scored a 17 the first time. You are allowed to take this twice. I recommend if you did not receive higher then a 20, retake the exam. I'll be applying next wk I have guaranteed 88pts, I'm aiming for 94. They let you know if you are accepted/declined early June.

Hi Jenn,

Thanks for answering, I had given up hope that someone would. Thanks for the information, that's good to know. I spoke with the receptionist today and she said they were going to be accepting 10 more students this year, so now 142 people. I think she said last year 300 or 320 applied. I've been debating taking the CT test again because I got a 17. I need to study a little bit though and I'd have to take it within a few weeks. Also, the receptionist told me they would not be notifying people this year until the middle of July! I really do hope its earlier than that, the wait is killing me now and the deadline hasn't even hit yet. What did you do to increase your score on the CT test? If I don't get in this year I should next year, I'm trying not to get my hopes up. It seems so hard for people to get in the first time around, at least from what I've heard anyway.

You should get in this year for sure, good luck to you. Maybe we'll be in the program together.

Thanks again,

Monty

If I knew the first time I applied that I was short 2 pts, I would've taken the Critical Thinking Test. You have plenty of time to study before the deadline. I have not taken the test, yet

http://www.sjsu.edu/depts/itl/graphics/main.html Use this website to study for the exam. jenn

Jenn,

Thanks for the website. How did you find out you were 2 points short? Did you talk to an advisor?

Thanks again.

Yep, I talked to a adviser

Monty,

I went to take the Critical Thinking Test and I scored a 20!!!!!... whoppies... my best advice is to take your time on the questions. You are not going to complete all 34 ques. I only completed 24 ques and I guessed on all the rest. I ran out of time..grrrrr

Later, Jenn

Jenn,

Congrats on the 20! I was worried about the CT exam, but its really not so bad. I'll take my time for sure. The first time I took the test my scores did not go through and I had to retake it due to a computer glitch. I always wonder if I did better on the first test, but I'll never know. Second time around I changed answers and I'm not sure I should have done that. I sure hope I can score a 20 also, 5 points really make a difference that'd put me up to 80 points total. I still have not taken nutrition yet, I wish I would have taken it Spring semester, but I just wanted a break and I was hoping to get in to UF. I'll have to take it in the Fall and if I get in to the program I'm worried about having that along with the Nursing Process I course.

Have you submitted your application yet? Good luck, I know you will get in this time for sure.

Hi

I applied to SFCC last year and didn't get in. MY CT score was a 10 the first time and I went to retake it and I got an 18:o . Much better but not good enough. I applied again this year but I can't retake the test until next year. I also applied to Lake City community college as a back up plan. I've heard good things about their program. Good luck to all of us, its cool seeing people on here from Gainesville.
