Hello - just throwing a question open to you guys - am thinking of trying to get agency work in the US so that I can get a visa and my NCLEX sat, with a view to maybe finding my own empliyment after say a year or so of working with the agency.
So....... you guys got any agencies you have dealt with and had good or bad experiences? What agencies would you recommend _ I have heard some bad things about OGP!! Thanks

I believe that you have to have passed NCLEX before you can work- even with an agency
Unless you are talking about unlicensed type jobs

Hi :)
Sorry, there's no such thing as agency work for foreign nurses in the US, not without NCLEX and an authorisation to work (green card or EAD) It's probably not what you want to hear, but there really are no short cuts. Sorry But stick around, there's loads of helpful advice and information on here to help you on your way :)
Yup i know you have to have the nclex etc but whicj agengies are best to work for that assist you to sit the nclex and sort out your green card with minimum hassle
Thanks

As Madwife said all hard work & agro agent or not!
I used Pacifichealth & I have been very pleased with them, you have to do a lot of the first stage stuff yourself but they will guide you. you can check out their website or call them for a chat or more info, they are a small company & only deal with hospitals in LA & Orange county California. You will find them @ pacifichealth.com

If you read the threads you'll find that "agency" is a bit of a swear word here because so many have caused problems. You can go it alone & there's plenty of people here with advice to help you.
However, I decided I wanted the guidance of an agency & I'm with Adevia & they truly have been great. You have to do a lot of the early stuff yourself but they will help & guide you.
Their website is easily accessible so if, like me, you're just too coward to go it alone then try them out. They do offer proper hospital contracts - i.e. once you sign up with your USA hospital Adevia's contract with you is over -apart from a hefty fine sould you break that contract (from what I hear from this site). That means your wage & terms of employment will be exactly the same as your US counterparts. Just make sure you are happy with the hospital you choose. Their contracts are mostly 12 - 18 months.
Good luck
There are also recruiters with whom you can go with, they work for hospitals and can offer a few tasty incentives. Plus you are working for the hospital and are treated better than the long term travellers, which is what 20 months agency nurses are conidered. When you come with an agency you work for the agency not the hospital and everybody knows. Because there are short term travellers and long term travellers ( short term travellers 13 week assignments and earn a lot of money, even their accomodation and utilities are paid for) regular staff dont see the difference and think you are on shed loads of money.
YOu can earn in Phx $34 per hour as direct hire, plus they pay you immigration costs in full. They expect 2 year sign on which is 4 months longer than agency sign on's. The only way you can complete the assignment with agencies is if you work 40 hours a week, most hospitals work 12 hour shifts. So if you want to complete in 18 months you have to do 4 nights/days per week.
Isn't that an OGP thing - I've not heard of this 40 hours to complete your contract with an agency that get's you a direct hire job?
