Any military NP's willing to answer a few questions? Would be greatly appreciated

Hello everyone

I am considering joining the military as a family nurse practitioner. I have 5 years experience as a rn and one year as a np. I have always wanted to join the military and am considering the army or the Air Force. I had several questions if anyone is willing to share their experience I would really appreciate your time.

1.) how competitive is the selection process and how long does it usually take to commission from the time you submit your application

2.) what is your typical work day like? What are your hours and how many patients are you seeing per day?

3.) do you find yourself having to do a lot of work on your off days?

4.) how satisfied are you in your position?

5.) I am a single parent and realize I have to make a family care plan for deployment. Otherwise, how family friendly is the military? Are there schools on the bases and are you satisfied with them?

6.) any other advice?

Do you have your DNP? I believe the Army is transitioning to a minimum of DNP for NPs, but you should contact an AMEDD recruiter (healthcare recruiter, not an enlisted/regular recruiter) to find out the latest.

Am also interested! Currently an FNP student with expected graduation of 6/2016. Have 3 years ER nursing experience. Have always thought about joining the military and that looming student loan debt is making it even more tempting. Am a single mother as well.

Where can you be stationed as a NP? Can you bring your family with you? Am also a single mother but bf and I are looking at getting married in the near future.
