Any Miami Dade College students going for the acceler. or Generic option fall 2009?

Published

I am currently at Miami Dade College fulfilling prerequisites in order to apply for the Nursing program that starts fall 2009. I'd like to be in touch with other career changers who after getting a bachelor's in a non-nursing field decided to pursue the program at Miami Dade College.

Thanks for your interest!

Hi Rosata,

Are you saying that there is no scholars program for this semester at Baptist for MDC?

RN42011, that is what I was told by the Nursing Department, she said that no scholarship available for this semester. Not fair, because if you look at the Baptist scholarship application form, only those students attending the Very first time qualify. That means, once we are in the nursing program, we would not qualify. I'm soo looking forward to applying at Baptist because I'm close at Homestead Campus. Now, I'm totally scambling how I'm going to finance this semester. Considering that it is advisable not to work.

Rosata, I think you should speak to someone else and confirm that. Also, call the scholars program at Baptist. The thing is that you can't apply for Baptist until you are accepted into the nursing program at MDC. The application packet requires you to send in your acceptance letter to a nursing school along with a few other things. The latest info that I have is that there are 40 seats available at Baptist. They are the ones who determine who gets them not MDC. I applied thru Barry and got a call for an interview for next week at Baptist. There a panel of nurses interview you and they determine if you get the scholarship/job. I am also in the Homestead area and would hate to commute all the way to Miami Shores to attend Barry. I would inquire further, since the will pay your full tuition. Good luck!

RN42011, I called yesterday at Baptist Hospital, the lady I spoke with said that they are still trying to find out exactly, if they are going to offer the scholarship or not. Then I called today to confirm at Nursing Department in Medical campus. I was told that scholarship will not be available this semester. But I'm thinking, I want to apply at Baptist. I will send all my paperwork next week. I don't put anymore hope to it. If I hear anything from them, that will be great. If not, oh well. At least I try.

Hey everyone :)

I'm new to this site, but really glad that i found a lot of people that are in the same position that i am :). I applied for the Nursing Program at MDC (Fall Term, Generic-Part time)..and got my acceptance letter last thursday 6/11. I was super happy and at the same time super frustrated because they expect you to do 20,000 things in a week. Get all your shots up to date, drug test, background check, CPR/BLS course. I need to have copies of all that by the 23rd of this month because that's when they have the orientation for the part-time students, and after orientation we get to pick our classes. Im super stresseddd...and ive heard so many things that i dont know what to think :/. And besides all that theres alot to pay for...ive already spent almost $500 dollars to get all i need done :/

Specializes in Icu.

I still have not received anything yet!!!!

oly21: did you get everything done???

No letter yet guys:(

Guess the answer I am waiting for is in that NON response I am getting..............Moving on to Plan B

oly21: did you get everything done???

Yes...i finished with everything today when i went to do my background check/ fingerprint at north campus. As soon as you get something start making all the appointments so you can have everything on time. And if u havent done it already...i suggest u make an appointment to take the CPR/BLS class because they get full really fast and you'll have to end up finding a place where they have it ..and all places usually have CPR courses once or twice a month. :/ . Everything is a hassle , super stressful . From the paper i got ..it says that generic part time students have the orientation on tuesday june 23, and on thursday the 25th we take an ATI test..to see how we do and what we need the most help in.

I still have not received anything yet!!!!

I know a lot of people that haven't received anything yet, and they have really high GPA's...so for a fact they're going to be accepted. Cheer up and wait :nuke:

I will do the same good look to you post every once in a while so we keep in touch:nurse:

olofin1,

NOTHING YET !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:nono:
