:) I want to move to a small town in Wyoming. Does anyone know where they are hiring permanent full time LPN's? Thanks

Where is it you want to move? I know long term care facilities hire LPN's, and some hospitals, but that varies town to town. So i'm not really sure! lol

:) Hi SnowymtnRN

I love Wyoming! My favorite places are Rawlins,Lander,Riverton,Saratoga,Thermopolis and any other small towns. I don't want to live in Casper,Laramie or Cheyenne. I use to live in Wyoming and made the mistake of moving elswhere. Do they still publish that paper called I believe "Wyoming Nurse"? It was a free paper that was mailed to all nurses and listed jobs in Wyoming. If you have the address of that paper please give it to me and I will try to get a free subscription. I can't move to Wyoming just now but when my financial situation improves I hope to return in the future. Thanks

Rawlins?? LOL Old "Brown Eye"? we HATED living there. We did live in Encampment for a year (15 miles out of Saratoga) and honestly if it weren't for the job situation, we'd move back tomorrow. However, due to the locations of basically every place you've named, its going to be tough to find a job there. Saratoga has a LTC facility that always needs help, i can't recall the name but i'll try to find out for you. Riverton and Lander do have hospitals, but i don't know what their stand on LPN's is. Rawlins also has a hospital and i THINK they hire LVN's, and there's also many LTC facilities and the prison if you are into that sort of nursing. I think i have one of those papers laying around, i'll see if i can dig it up for you!!!! But honestly, the problem with the "small towns" in Wyoming, is there just isn't that many jobs for health care providers. :uhoh21: Sucks cuz we love the smaller towns too. we live in Casper now (outside of Casper actually) and really like it. There's a hospital here, but not a plethora of job opportunities like we'd like. :crying2:

:chuckle Hi SnowymtnRN :chuckle

Surely you were just joking around when you said you hated Rawlins!!! I use to work at the pen in Rawlins and I loved it. I don't like to work in hospitals. I prefer prisons and nursing homes. I've been to Encampment and I loved it!!

I think I will probably move back to Rawlins in the future. At least Rawlins has the pen,the hospital and a nursing home. The other towns probably just have one place to work period. Yes it's a shame there aren't many job choices when a person lives in a small town. I had an apartment in Rawlins and I use to love to look out the window and see the wild deer!! Thanks again for everything!

Oh honestly we HATED Rawlins. lol BUT that would be a great place for you to be if you prefer that sort of nursing. if i'm not mistaken there's more than one nursing home there now. And an Assisted Living? I LOVED Encampment, i am DYING to buy a cabin out there for the winter!! i'll let you know ASAP on that newspaper!! Good luck!

:) Thanks again SnowymtnRN

Wow! I hope you will get a cabin in Encampment soon. What a beautiful place to have your own cabin!!! So Rawlins may have 2 nursing homes and an assisted living facility now? Sounds great! Yes-more job opportunities in Rawlins!

Hi Blackcat,

There are jobs for LPN's all over Wyoming. I would be really cautious about working at the pen in Rawlins. I talked to traveler that had taken a 6 month contract there and she said it is a h**l hole to work in. She lasted the longest of any traveler in over a year. She said that there is only about 3 employees, the rest are travelers. She told me that she had never seen so much back biting, anamosity between shifts, no working together at all between shifts or nurses on the same shift, etc. She said that no matter how poor or hungry she and her family were, she would never work there again. I had thought about sending one of my flyers about my nursing service company to them to see if I could pick up some shifts. After talking to her, I decided against it. Rawlins only has 1 nursing home, has a SNF / ICF in the hospital. I have never lived in Rawlins, but are through there quite often and like what I have seen of the town. I know that the hospital is always looking for staff.

You might want to check out the Women's pen in Lusk. I do know that they use LPN's and have been hiring. They are also supposed to reopen the hospital in Lusk sometime this winter. You are close to the Black Hills and all they have to offer. I know that Custer, Spearfish, etc. in South Dakota are also looking for nurses.

Going to the other side of the state, Kemmerer usually needs help in their LTC. I picked up a weekend shift over there a year ago. I was impressed with their facility. It is such a cute little town. Again you are in a beautiful part of the state with access to Jackson, Yellowstone, etc. My husband was from Rock Springs, and before we got together he had planned on one day retiring to Kemmerer. Think plans have changed now, but you never know what will come down the road. We still do lots of work there for my husbands business. I love their Ace Hardware store. It is the old fashioned type of general store, with a little bit of everything in it. He keeps a tight rein on the checkbook and the credit cards when I go in there. LOL

Thermopolis had an ad in the Casper paper last week about needing LPN' s at their nursing home. Don't remember what the sign on bonus was.

Here is a link that you can check out about LTC facilities nationwide.

Hope this gives you some more ideas on jobs in Wyoming. If you have questions, etc. don't hesitate to contact me.

:) Thank you thank you thank you Wyoming RN for all the good information about LPN jobs in Wyoming. I really appreciate it! Sorry to hear the pen in Rawlins is having so much trouble. I won't be able to move for awhile. However, in the future when I return to Wyoming I will definately check out the job opportunities you mentioned. Thanks again

I was doing a travel assignment in Basin, Wyoming which has a population of 1200 people. I lived in Greybull which is 7 miles from basin and has a popluation of 2500. These towns are 60 miles from Cody and 121 miles from Billings Montana. The towns are great and since you have the city ammenities so close it was great. You should talk to Wyoming retirement Center and Bonnie Blue Jacket Nursing Home at South BigHorn County Hospital. If you would like to try a travel assingment first contact Nurses USA/Nurse Connections of Wyoming in Cheyenne. They can help you.

I also worked in Rawlins on a travel assignment and it was ok but I loved basin. There are so many other towns that might be good like Powell (the only town are ound there with a 24 hour grocery store.) It is between Cody and greybull. It is 30 miles from Cody
