Any Johns Hopkins (JHU) BSN/MSN 2008 applicants?

Published

Yes, we're a few months away from applications for the Accelerated BSN track, but I thought I'd see if anyone else was applying for the BSN/MSN (or just BSN portion) at Johns Hopkins, 2008? JHU is my first choice, but I'm also applying to Columbia, Mount St. Marys College (Los Angeles, BSN only) and Oregon Health & Science University.

I'm nervous as I haven't visited the school yet although the Admissions Officers have been very helpful, answering all of my endless questions via email and phone. I'm taking the GRE in October and I have one shot to get it done and get my scores sent off by the Accelerated track early decision deadline, November 1st. I've spoken to some JHU Nursing Alums via allnurses as well and they've been super helpful with my questions as well (thanks!).

How would I pay for it...? Who really knows...

The interview was fun. The person who interviewed me, Denelle, made the whole experience not as nerve racking as I had expected. The school of nursing was really nice as well. I just hope I left a good impression...I wonder how much the interview is weighted in the whole application process.

So Tamalama, have you decided to attend JHU or are you waiting on other schools?

Ham,

I didnt apply anywhere else...lol :) I'm definately going...I'm very excited, but also stressed with finals as I am sure we all are, huh? I am glad your interview went well!! Also, I think that they rely heavily on the interview if I had to guess because I think how they feel about you as a person and how much you want this and your personality, etc is what they look at more than your GPA. someone from the school once told me that some people might read your essays before looking at your GPA!

Yes, I applied for Early Decision. Denelle told me I would hear on or about the 17th. Talk about waiting till the very end...

For those of you who have heard back from JHU,

Did you guys apply for early admissions? I had my interview Nov. 19th, and was told that I probably wouldn't hear back until Jan/Feb.

Asherah, I am so sorry to hear you didn't get in :o I was really rooting for you as a fellow Southern Californian. Don't give up!

I had my interview today...most nerve-wracking thing ever. The wonderful lady I interviewed with was so kind and she said she couldn't tell I was nervous which is always good. Now the torturous wait begins...

Hello everyone! This is my first post here, and I'm so glad to have found this forum. So much helpful information here!

I just got an email from Hopkins saying that I should call to schedule an interview. For those of you who did phone interviews, can you tell me how long they turned out to be? Thanks so much!

Hi, I wanted to post that I just got accepted into the Hopkins program, for those who are following this thread. I am relieved the process is over and excited about the next steps (well, maybe not so excited about payment options). Hopefully everyone else who is waiting to hear from the schools they applied to will soon get answers...I know the waiting period is stressful. (I, for one, am waiting on one outstanding application...but, yes, I will be attending Hopkins--I live in Baltimore, own a home and all that good middle-age stuff (lol), so it is the logical choice for many reasons!) Good luck to everyone!

BChach,

Congratulations on your acceptance! I'm quite happy for you and everyone else as well. (Now I feel like a big loser, but am trying to get over it.)

You sound like you have the other components of your life in order and will excel at JHU.

Good luck! ;)

I wouldn't feel like a loser! I debated whether to post that I got accepted but I figured people may be interested in "end results" in the long run.

Well, I truly do feel happy that everything is going well for everyone, but its hard to be the only reject thus far! :lol2: (See, that's me trying to have sense of humor about it.) I did email Denelle and was candid with her regarding seeking information about my application and why the decision was made. That is all I can do at this point until I see if there is any glimmer of hope. I can't stand the idea of having to wait 8 more weeks for the other two programs to notify me and let me know if I get to move on with my life next summer or what, you know? Everyone here knows the agony of waiting when a committee of strangers gets to decide your future.

Don't be so hard on yourself because there were hundreds of others who did not get in. Hundreds if not 1000 (I don't know the applicant pool but I guess it was about 1000?). I am certain things will go forward for you in a positive manner. You'll make it into your other two schools, right?!

I'll be throwing my hat in the ring at JHU, but only for the BSN (traditional 21-month option). I'm still working on my application, I'm planning to have it mailed out by Jan. 2. I considered the Early Decision Agreement.....but the reality is that I can't make a decision to go there until I see the financial aid package. I'd love to go there and they are my first choice, but I need to pay for it as well :)

I wish everyone the best of luck!!

Peace,

Cathie

My interview was about 30-40 min long. Good luck!
