Any IA lpn to rn online through excelsior?

U.S.A. Iowa

Published

Hi just curious how many from iowa have completed the lpn to rn program through excelsior online? I want to continue my education and become a rn but I have to work full time and with my family this sounds like it would work for me. I have debated if I want to burn myself out with working and trying to go back to the college where I went to for my lpn. I feel I recieved an excellent education and I have seen the books etc for the online program and feel it's pretty in depth covering alot. I plan to take the 8 week course for expanded iv for the lpn so I have that when I would go to test out of the clinical aspect of the program. Just would like some input on this from iowa nurses. Thanks ;)

Hey Unseen,

Hi, I currenly live in Oregon but call Iowa home(kids still live there). I am doing the RUE plan LPN to RN. The text thru Rue (the $125/month payment) is not the real expense but rather the 220 (or more depending on test you need to take) from Excelsior. Plus all the other ADD ON stuff($900 to enroll in Excelsior for 1 year, $500 everyear after that that till you graduate etc. The people from RUE gave me a very good detailed accounting for costs I used that same info when I called the others-and they seemed upset that I was asking for amounts/reasons that RUE had given me. For $75 registration fee a "real" college admissions person reviews your transcripts so you know what you need to take(Excelsior). Class requirements are changing so check into things carefully!!!!!

Have any of you gotten any more information from Kaplan university? They started their online RN program in Florida and when I talked to them today they are planning on expanding the program to other states. Since there are two Kaplan University's in Iowa I am hoping we are one of those states. Wondering if anyone has anymore info???

I haven't heard anything from Kaplan. I sent for info but nothing yet........

rlaurengirl22-Could you keep me posted on what you find out. I have decided to wait it out with Kaplan too as I think it would be the best option for me. I hate to post my email here, but cant think of any other way to give it to you????

You are correct...never place your personal email on a board post.

However, you may send a PM or private message to that member with your email enclosed. That way, you can share that kind of sensitive info off the eyes of the board (and the world).

An Excelsior person did that when I applied and I didn't need to take some things that I KNOW Rue or TCN would have said I needed.

My Excelsior ASN is going to cost a total of $6000, including graduation fees.

I have finished all of my classes. My GPA is 3.8. I got NO additional study materials. The downloadable guides and texts are plenty.

Kaplan University now starts its adn program online. However, Florida is the only place doing it now. They are [planning to expand the program to other states. They take 20 students out of one thousand.

Is it hard to get into Kaplan University ADN program? I was interested. Is anyone taking their pre entrance exam??

if so where in florida r u taking it?

ok hear from u soon hopefully.

If you still look into this site, I am taking the Excelsior Route from the QC area. I would be intersted in located some other students who would be interested in studying with me.

I am currently planning on working toward my RN degree by going through excelsior college directly. I have received the admission information from Excelsior college and plan on completing the admission paperwork and turning it in. I have a friend who went through the college network who is not very satisified. She said she spent $4000.00 on books that were not approved by excelsior, but the college network claimed she needed them. I also have looked into going through Rue education but have read some negative things on-line. I decided why would I not just go through Excelsior directly and cut out the middle man. About 10 years ago I had taken all my prerequisites for the RN program through a community college. In speaking with an excelsior college admissions counselor it was nice totfind out all of my previous coursework will transfer and I will only need to take the actual nursing courses. What a relief since many of the other campus based colleges would require me to retake the A&P since it has been longer than 5 years. I to have a family and need to work full time. To try and continue on through a college where I would need to be there 4-5 days a week is not an option for me. I am really excited about the program excelsior is offering. I checked with the IOwa Board of nursing and excelsior graduates CAN sit for Iowa Boards. I will be taking an 8 week IV course at the community college to beeter prepare me for the clinical test at the end of the program. Anyone who is currently taking this program or who is thinking about it- I'm cheering for ya!!

I have the same question. Our local community college does not have night classes, so I am looking for an online program. I am wary of this considering all the negative comments. If one goes thru Indiana, Excelsior or Kaplan (when I go to Kaplan website it appears they do not have an LPN to RN program, just RN to BSN) does the state of iowa accept this source of education? Any input would be greatly appreciated :)
