Any CSUDH MEPN Fall 2008 Applicants out there?

Published

Hi y'all

Just wanted to see if there are any CSUDH MEPN Fall 2008 applicants out there who would like to join me in the wait. Does anyone know if interviews are finished? I had mine on April 10th. Does anyone know how accurate the school is with their first week of June deadline of notification? Hope to hear from somebody:wink2:

A student just answered at Lisette's desk & will be calling me back with info about when the notification letters will be/were mailed. Apparently Lisette is no longer working there. She used to sit at the front desk in the MEPN (MSN?) office, to the left as you enter (with Jorge in the cubicle to the right of there). She gave basic info regarding our orientation and has answered my questions about the interview.

Keep trying with Jorge, too, in case my student doesn't follow through.

I'm also in a time crunch this week since I need to fill out tons of paperwork by Fri for the VA. They have an education program I'm hoping to use for nursing school. I really don't want to jump through all the hours of Federal hoops if I'm not accepted into the program.

Hi all! :) I found this thread coincidently by googling "MEPN at CSUDH". And I'm really glad I did b/c now I know that I'm not the only one stressin out over this. :p I spoke with Lizette actually two weeks ago, she informed me that the acceptances will not be until mid-late June!!! She told met that they are still reviewing applications. I couldnt get up the courage to ask the status of my application although that was all I could think of asking. I guess there must be a lot of portfolios this year...?? I'm going to try calling them again this afternoon....

Again, thanks for this thread! awesome~

okay, Update: so I just spoke with Jorge (luckily he answered today, its always vm everytime I call)... and he said that we should be getting something in the mail this week, and to make sure that the application to the school is complete as well. AhhhHHhh~ omg the waiting only lasts for two more days!!

That's strange---I spoke with him too and he said they would mail letters on Fri, so we would get them early next week.

Hi everyone,

I talked to him (Jorge) today as well. I think my situation is a little different from y'all because I still had a pre-requisite in progress. I asked him if he wanted me to submit a transcript for that pre-req I just finished or if it didn't matter because a decision had been made on my app. He said that decisions have not been made on all apps, which to me implies that some decisions have been made. He said to turn in an official transcript because a decision had not been made on my app, and that I should know by next week. So it seems people will be finding out at different times, some sooner than others

Ya, I got a similar response when it came to pre-reqs.. I had 2 pre-reqs in progress last semester, but didn't get the grade in til mid-May. I asked Jorge about whether my grade even mattered or not at this point since they were only reviewing portfolios til the end of May, and he told me to still turn in my grade cuz decisions had not been made.

p.s. will u guys still be going to another accelerated msn program if csudh doesn't fall through?

I think my fallback plan is just Santa Monica College since I could start there this Fall. I really don't want to wait another year, and at least SMC is right next to my house. If anyone has any feedback about their program, I'd love to hear it, tho. Obviously, I'd rather go for the "kick butt" MSN at CSUDH.

I'm waiting, waiting, waiting for the mail today. Hopefully letters got out early yesterday & we could get them today. Please post as soon as you get it, ok?

My other option is the Accelerated Bachelor in Nursing at Samuel Merritt College at the San Francisco campus in the fall. This program is very appealing because it only lasts 12 months but I like I've said before, it is pretty costly. What school is your other option?

I've heard good things about SMC. They have a pretty good NCLEX passing rate if you check the BRN website. They also have simulation labs. The program is very cheap. 3,000 - 4,000 dollars for the entire program sounds really good to me. The faculty seem very competent, helpful, and approachable. I took two pre-reqs that they require this past semester (Nursing 17 Pharm and Nursing 36 Dosage Calculations). I really liked the professors and the classes. Pharm was not a walk in the park and an A is 92 percent or above. When did u apply? I applied in October 07, they said the wait is 3 semesters, but I doubt that. People in my class said they had been waiting 2 or even 3 years before they got in. They were about to implement a system where people with better grades and TEAS scores move up the waitlist, but it has yet to happen.

p.s. Nothing in my mail today but not surprised. Hopefully I'll know by next week. I'll keep posting.

p.p.s I have received 3 copies (at different times, of course) of the same letter from Financial Aid Office acknowledging my FAFSA application. Has this happened to anyone else? I thought it was weird.

I applied to SMC the first day & first hour that applications could be accepted last Oct. I was #26 on the waitlist, and luckily got in this week when they received extra monies that increased the number of students they could accept.

Hi everyone!

No news yet :(

My fallback plan is to attend Western U. here in SoCal, have you guys heard of it? I applied to 6 acc.msn programs, interviewed for all, and got accepted to 2, one being western (the other is out of state so i am not even considering it anymore). Western is a great program, very prestigious Health Sciences Univ., great staff, but it costs $70k+ for the 3 year program. there are 3 track options; CNL, Admin Leadership, and FNP. i believe it is just the high cost that makes it less impacted than other acc. MSN programs..

Oddly enough, I think it is easier to get into programs out of state even at more prestigious universities. My friend who didn't get into any cali programs got into Columbia and Washington's acc msn. Plus, for some of the programs there is no interview process..

It's taken me 2 years to round up the pre-reqs to even apply to enough schools, so I don't mind the high debt if I go to Western. But really I hope I get into CSUDH.. Whoever get's into that school really deserves it, it's been an excruciating application process! I will keep you guys posted (for better or worse) when I get my letter.. Do the same! :)

Today should be the day! I'm going to be out of town, but am having someone come to open the letter & read it to me. Sure wish my mail carrier delivered before 5:30. I'm enrolled & working hard in the Patho N346 class, so it sure would be great to not have wasted my efforts so far (not that it's not useful anyway). Have you all taken that class? How detailed are the quizzes/exams? Good luck to everyone.
