Any advice ? repeat nclex test taker

Nursing Students NCLEX

I'm sure that my case is similar to other people. I am a repeat nclex-rn test taker. 4th time nclex test taker to be exact. I am going to take it for the 5th time in mid-February after 45 days.

1st time: failed at 75-really bad

2nd time: failed at 188-near passing in all categories

3rd time: failed at 75-maybe test anxiety....It's really weird. You would think that there is no way that you could do worse than before when you studied more and differently.

4th time: 265 questions. I did pvt and got a bad pop up. Now I am waiting for my cpr.

I was wondering what other resources that are out there that I could use. I have already used kaplan, davis, lippincott, and pda. I have tried getting a tutor. She stated that I have a good base of content review. However, I will still go over content. I have used the decision tree from Kaplan, but for some reason, I didn't pass. I went over all rationals, even questions that I got right. I took only anti-anxiety med just for the nclex. I am done crying and want to start studying again. I am not going to stop until I pass. Any advice? Please and thank you.

I think now you need know how to answer nclex styles questions. No matter how.much you need it is going to come down to those 2 answers and choosing the best answer it is what is going to help you passed . I think you should look for videos or book that help you break down how to answer questions.

I took nclex 2times and that helped a lot , I got 77 questions and passed. Also there is a book for sata only .

dont waste your time with Kaplan decision trees. They dont work 99% of the time anyways. Knowing your core content and fundamentals is the key, along with NCLEX type questions. I believe getting a tutor would be a good idea for you, so you can figure out and focus on your weak points.

thanks for all of the advices!

Agree with others. I failed first time using Kaplan. I also didn't review my contents. I feel like confidence and Kaplan killed it first time. LOL! second time, I just took a lot of time assessing myself by doing a lot of questions, either via apps or books. It will tell me my weakness and strength and I go from there. Please use LaCharity, the best investment for NCLEX. I had anxiety taking the first test, because I was under the assumption that I was gonna make it. Then reality hits, it went all the way to 265. so I knew then I didn't pass. Second time around, I took my time. I was like a snail. I read every question three times. And I look at the answers, re read the question again, and I know they are trying to trick you. so I eliminate the ones I know are wrong, and just went from there.

Please take your time, don't rush. Half of my exam were SATA, but it doesnt mean anything, seriously. It's all computerized. Then I made sure to take a break. your brain needs to rest. I didn't do that for the first exam. I sat there 6 hours and think i can do this. boy was I wrong. Relax, and just focus. if you don't know the answer, just re read the question again and figure out what are they asking you. Most of the times, they want to assess if you are a safe nurse. Best of luck to you!

what are some good test strategies when you come across a question that you don't know the answer to?

Hi. There is no quick way. It takes practice, you have to practice answering NCLEX style questions now. Sometimes, there is no strategy. It's either you know it or you dont. Knowledge questions have no strategy. you need to just know it.

which books you used . mine is the same story . im going to take it mid feb for the 4th times too. @ sonia 1210

Im on the same boat have taken my nclex a couple of time Im done with Kaplan the decision tree was not helpful at all for me, Im thinking about trying the NCSBN q bank its not to pricey any thoughts on that program? I just really need help how to break down the questions

I'm on the same boat as you. I've already taken it twice, and now trying my luck for the 3rd time. Whenever I take the exam, my anxiety level is always up the ceiling. And also, I suck at critical thinking. What I'm going to do is to brush up on my content again (for the nth time. Lol) and I've met a couple people here who are willing to be my study buddies (online anyway, since I'm in Chicago and they're from the west coast) and do a lot of practice questions. Like, A LOT. So yeah, if I can be of any help, you can message. I'd be glad to help another sister (or brother) out. :)
