Any accelerated SELU students out there???

U.S.A. Louisiana

Hi everyone

I was wondering were there any Southeasten University Louisiana "SELU" accelerated of future accelerated students out there. I barely see threads with anyone saying much about the program at SELU. I was wondering how is it so far? Also, as of the past semesters, what was the minimum GPA cutoff? If anyone knows anything, please let me know.

I plan on applying this fall for Spring 2012 semester. I would like to know how are clinicals? (Meaning the times and day). Also, how are you managing the course laod? I know with every person it's different, so I would like to get different perspectives. What are the best supplemental materials/books needed? Are you working while in the program? If so, how are you managing with working? Just any essential information!

I think I am getting really worried because I pretty much used all my student loans for my first degree, so know I am worried about how will I pay for nursing school. I am really trying to get a position at a local hospital so I could possibly participate in a tuition reimbursement program. I am also considering private loans:uhoh3: Any advice????

Thanks for your time. I know this is a lot lol! Oh and the first two paragraphs are for any SELU nursing student. The last is for anyone...Feel free to respond!!!:D

The cut off for the regular program was 3.52 I heard. A lot of my buddies were between 3.45 and 3.5, so it was kind of an up and down day. I'm fine with meeting new people. I just feel bad for them.

I thought it was 3.448. I went with a friend to the nursing office yesterday and they gave her a slip of paper that said that and that she was number 5 on the waiting list. Who knows though!!!

Which advising meeting are you going to?

You're right it was a 3.448. My friends that didn't get in were calculating SE 101 with their GPA. What did your friend have to get on the wait list, and do you know how many people are on that list? I tried to switch to Thursday advising because I wasn't sure how long it would. I've emailed them three times, but I can't seem to get a reply. I didn't want to miss any of my other classes. How about you?

I was reading the threads and had a question about what zoology is, also are you able to retake classes? I took sociology but didn't get a good grade, any information will help, thanks

Zoology is A&P. I'm fairly sure you're able to retake classes for admissions, but I would email or call anyway just to double check.

Yes, I think that's a common mistake, to calculate the SE 101 in there as well. Also, electives. They don't count the electives either. I think you are automatically put on the list, depending where you fall in the GPA range. She just went to the office and they told her what number she was.

Yes, Zoology is Anatomy and Physiology. We have to have two lectures and two labs.

You can retake a class and replace the grade you first got. So if you took Sociology and got a C and take it again for an A, the A is the only one counted. It you take more than twice, I "think" it's averaged. Not sure about that. But I am 100% positive about retaking it and having it replace the first grade. It's even in bold letters at the top of the application.

Just FYI, I retook a LOT of classes. English 101, Sociology, Psychology to name a few. It was a lot of work, but I know it will be worth it.

If you have any questions about the curriculum or calculating your GPA, don't hesitate to ask. I have an awesome advisor and I've spent a lot of time hunting down the answers to some of these questions!

Specializes in LTC, Psych, Hospice.
I'd go pick up an application in Southeastern hall next time you get the chance. They're on a shelf in the main office. The woman behind the desk will tell you where they are if you can't find them. I don't think it matters when you turn it in. I would just turn it in the first day of Fall Semester though.

The SON office is in Mims Hall.

They look exactly the same and are right next to each other. I always get them mixed up.

I called and they said the cutoff for accelerated last semester was 3.439.

Hey! I've read a few of your responses on some of the SELU accelerated nursing threads and was hoping that you could answer a few questions for me! I'm taking the rest of my pre-reqs at Southeastern in the spring and applying for the accelerated program in February for the Fall 2014 start date. I don't know anyone in the program now so I was hoping that you could give me some more information, any information really...how you like the program, clinicals, teachers, etc.
