Any accelerated SELU students out there???

Published

Hi everyone

I was wondering were there any Southeasten University Louisiana "SELU" accelerated of future accelerated students out there. I barely see threads with anyone saying much about the program at SELU. I was wondering how is it so far? Also, as of the past semesters, what was the minimum GPA cutoff? If anyone knows anything, please let me know.

I plan on applying this fall for Spring 2012 semester. I would like to know how are clinicals? (Meaning the times and day). Also, how are you managing the course laod? I know with every person it's different, so I would like to get different perspectives. What are the best supplemental materials/books needed? Are you working while in the program? If so, how are you managing with working? Just any essential information!

I think I am getting really worried because I pretty much used all my student loans for my first degree, so know I am worried about how will I pay for nursing school. I am really trying to get a position at a local hospital so I could possibly participate in a tuition reimbursement program. I am also considering private loans:uhoh3: Any advice????

Thanks for your time. I know this is a lot lol! Oh and the first two paragraphs are for any SELU nursing student. The last is for anyone...Feel free to respond!!!:D

I can't really help you out with any information on the accelerated program. I'll just give you a friendly bump and a hello. I am finishing up my prereqs this semester, and recently applied for the regular program for Fall 2011. It's going to be a long few months before I get any word. Till then I'm lurking here.

Hope you find the information you're looking for.

Edit: The cutoff for the regular program for Spring 2011 was 3.393 with a 48% acceptance rate. I know that doesn't help you loads, but I'm pretty sure the accelerated program is usually close to that. I also heard that it was easier to get into the Spring semester as oppose to Fall, but I can't back that up.

Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. That seems like a pretty low cutoff compared to other GPA cutoffs. However, that will work with me lol.

How was the application? Did you apply anywhere else? When will you know (if you have any idea), when you have been accepted? (approx. what month)

I wish you all the luck with getting accepted!!! :yeah:

The application for SELU is very simple. It just asks basic information and your grades on prereqs. The cutoff for both applications is February 15th for Fall and September 15th for Spring. I believe letters go out midway through April, so I have a long long wait. :sniff: I applied to SELU and LSU with a 3.7. Three of my B's were in Art History, American History, and SE 101. All of which have NOTHING to do with nursing lol.

If you want information specifically on the past semesters' acceptance rates and GPA for the accelerated program you can email admissions at [email protected]. They were able to help me out.

Edit: Thaaaanks :D

Hi there!

I just found out Friday that I was accepted to the accelerate program starting this summer.

Last semester the Nursing Department told me that the cutoff for accelerated was 3.58 and traditional was 3.43. The previous poster said it was a 3.39, I wonder if that was after they accepted a few off the waiting list. Not sure if my info is correct.

For this semester, they said the cutoff was 3.44 for traditional, but I'm not sure about accelerated.

It's so hard to know the truth, because everyone is told different things. (they aren't exactly the best with communication).

I'm not sure how I'm going to manage it all. I'm married with two small kids and I was just offered a job as an EKG Tech and I have an interview for an EKG Tech at Ochsner Hospital in Baton Rouge. So I'll be working part-time soon.

I'm sure I will manage though!

Good luck to you!

Oh, I do think the cutoff for accelerated was lower this semester than last. A friend of mine who got in was told she was 13 out of 18 on the list and she had a 3.49, lower than the 3.58 last semester.

I got my acceptance letter the other day. I am super excited! :lol2: My friend who has a 3.46. did not get into the regular program though. I'll try to find out what the cutoffs were as soon as I can.

@NurseMaybeBaby Thank you so much for the information. I am so anxious and sort of nervous because I know a lot of people who are coming back to school to pursue nursing. I pray that I get accepted for the spring because I'm really ready to start with the actual nursing courses, clinicals, etc.

I know the deadline is September 15 I believe for admissions for the spring. How far in advance is best to turn in your application?

I'd go pick up an application in Southeastern hall next time you get the chance. They're on a shelf in the main office. The woman behind the desk will tell you where they are if you can't find them. I don't think it matters when you turn it in. I would just turn it in the first day of Fall Semester though.

@Trenia Congrats!!!!!! I know that's an exciting feeling. If you find out, please let me know thanks!

@NurseMaybeBaby I apologize but Congrats to you as well!!!!
