Starting a new 2014 thread for AVC hopefuls. Seems on the older thread many of them have started or moved on..

I applied June '13 and was hopeful for this fall, but came just shy. Now I am number 3 on the wait list for Spring '15... Still planning on getting my physical and shots, CPR certs, etc done in case anyone defers or backs out.

Anyone else out there in for this fall, still waiting or also starting in spring? Love to hear from everyone!

Anyone took teas recently? Any advice on what and how to study?

We'll get something in the mail sometime next month. I've heard it's a envelope with papers on where to do the background check, physical, buy uniforms and other stuff.

It's going to be exciting :-0

It is going to be exciting.. I literally might have to frame that acceptance letter until my degree replaces it.. Lol.. It feels like it's been so long- but luckily I've gotten all my general ed done and all my lower division transfer classes for Bakersfield! (Planning on doing thier RN-BSN) So I have nothing but nursing classes from here!

Is advise to definitely get the book ASAP when you submit your application packet- or sooner.

I also bought the practice tests online. I took a test first so I could gauge where I was and my strong/weak subjects and where I needed to focus the most.

Also pick up a schedule for workshops- I went to several math workshops to brush up on my skills.. That helped the most- my first practice test I scored a 54 in math. When I took the teas I got a 92 in math! They also have special workshops specifically for TEAS prep.

I also had study sessions with a friend from my comm 103 class- she made the cut and is in her first semester now. But it was nice because we could bounce off each other and help tutor.. We'd take our practice test and then go through each answer we got wrong and discuss/clarify.

So study that manual cover to cover- and take as many practice tests as you can! Go to workshops and seek help or study groups where you need it.

The actual test I felt was easier than the practice tests! Good luck and congratulations!

Thanks melikk, I will check if they have any workshops. I bought the ati study manual and will start studying that...they told me that my test date is in November, I just didn't expect it so soon...but thanks again.

Good job on taking care of the GE before NS. You'll need all the time possible to study for your NS course. :-)

Jessxca, did you receive the notification letter in the mail for the teas assessment test? I didn't expect to receive it so soon since I am 180 on the waiting list.

Yes I did! When are you supposed to test? Mine is November 20. I think it's just to get it out of the way already. It's a good thing we bought our study books!

So once you finish AVC's program, you go straight into the CSUB program? I wasn't sure how that worked because I'm following the same path. I'm practically almost done with all my general ed including the ones I need to transfer.

As long as you have completed a math class above intermediate algebra (they want Statistics) communications 101 and some history class you can transfer after your A.S. in Nursing.

I have a B.S. degree in Biology, I'm going to try a B.N.S at Bakersfield. Since I took communications 105 in my first degree, I now need to take 101 to transfer

Mine is November 24, yes it is good to get it out of the way if you are prepared :) I have been procrastinating, let me know how it goes on nov 20th :)

Yes, my plan is to go straight to CSUB and finish their program. Starting this spring sets me up for graduation and last semester fall 2016, so my plan is to take my nclex right away and apply to CSUB February and fingers crossed, start that summer. Not skip a beat!

Currently I am in my last two classes that I can transfer- History & Philosopy- otherwise I'm done with anything I can take at AVC! Yayyy! Its a perfect set up- I've got two little ones at home so I figured busting my ass to get that done gives me more time, focus and energy for the nursing courses! So if you're on that path too- awesome! It's going to help for sure!

If you have questions on CSUB talk to a counselor- I updated my Ed plan with ------------------------ she was super helpful and had a lot of info and insight on CSUB program- probably one of the best counselors I've ever met with at AVC!
