i have said this in an early post; but you definitely are not ready to test again!!!! more and more you are feeling sorry for yourself and you need to stop!!! yes, it is hard to accept the fact that you failed; but you have to hold your head up high and know "in your heart" that your time will come and you will pass!!

you will not be ready to test again in 45-days. follow the repeated suggestions and take a break!!! you are too eager to go back and you have yet to determine what works best for you in order to adjust your study style.

when you faill your boards, yes, you are allowed to (and you should) go through the grievance process but at some point you must pick yourself up, regain your optimism and begin working towards passing the exam. take a break!!!

when you wake up each day and when you go to bed each night, tell yourself, "i will pass my next nclex exam. i will be a great nurse." if you have to, tape index cards with these words along with positive/inspirational "food for thought" throughout your home. read each card as you pass them. believe it or not, when you least expect it, you will begin to believe (and know in your heart) that you do have the knowledge, skills and ability to pass the dreaded nclex! until you believe in yourself, you are not ready for the nclex.

as others have stated, the nclex is not just sata. as a matter-of-fact, some testers may have sata while others have the same/similar question in multiple choice format. don't assume that the test is made up of a "few" types/styles of questions. the more questions you practice, the more comfortable you will be.

as you have stated, you know that kaplan qbank questions are not the route for you right now, since you know all of the questions by heart. but, you may need to make sure you are familiar with the kaplan strategy--since you paid for the class. do you use the decision tree??? are comfortable with how to break down the questions (assessment vs. implementation, physical vs. psychosocial, basic content, etc.)?? this is the main purpose behind kaplan's course.

suggestion:

as you practice/prepare for nclex....

when you read a practice question. go through your process to determine the right answer. after you answer the question, but put a new "twist" on your study process ask yourself if the question is about a disease--what are the signs and symptoms associated with this disease/diagnoses??? if the question is about therapeutic communication--what type of communication is being referenced in each answer choice--can you identify the various types???. if the question is about a stage of the labor process--can you identify/describe all the other stages??? even though the question is not asking for signs/symptoms, types of therapeutic communciation, stages of labor--do you know what they are??? this is another way of testing your own knowledge about various topics (content) as you study and complete practice questions. studying may take a little longer; but you will at least be able to determine if you know as much about a topic as you think---versus---just answering a question (...or maybe "guessing" the right answer...) and moving on to the next one. this process forces you :banghead: to test your knowledge.

now, go ahead: grieve......pick yourself up.....get and retain a more positive attitude.....determine your new approach to studying  ....study/study/study....and be on your way to passing your next nclex!!!

see, this the problem here. you do the same thing over and over. when you failed the exam, you grieved for how many days, then you apply again, then you start reviewing the same nursing content again, then you failed again?? the problem here is not the person..its the nclex itself...the cat exam is a crap!! were not stupid for it to adopt to what you know as a nurse. i hate to waste money over and over for this exam that it makes it harder and harder for me to pass..its a bull..the questions they have are not on the review book..its all integrated and they trick you too. they put four right answer and they want the best one..crap!!

I am so-soo sorry you didn't pass--I feel your pain! I failed my NCLEX-PN a few weeks ago. I still haven't called people to let them know--[didn't have to, my grandma told the whole world].

When I found out I failed, I opened a bottle [several], cried my-eyes-out, crawled into bed and put on the Golden Girls [i have every season--lol].

Our 'nurse-hood' has been crushed and life put on hold. Everyone is right on here, you will get over this hurtle--it WILL happen! Silverdragon is right, you should take a short break, come to terms with it and then pick yourself up and try again . . . and again and again if need-be. What a blessing to be able to come to allnurse.com and recieve encouraging words and have people to talk to that can relate.

You are in my thoughts girl!!!

your grandma told the whole world??!!! you opened a bottle [several]??!!! golden girls!!! you are too funny!!! :chuckle :chuckle your grandma sounds like my aunt. it takes everything in me not to beat her (my aunt's) a*s when she tells my business!!! :bluecry1: i feel your pain!!!

by the way, my suggestion (captioned within your post) was another way for her (cdb6c) to approach her studies. that is why i placed in as a "suggestion." cdb6c has not determined what works for her. she is not giving herself "time" to do so. she is so quick to return to test again and again, that she is not focusing on what she needs to do. if you fail the nclex you cannot just study your weak areas. you must still "review" all areas so that they remain fresh in your mind.

cdb6c just needs to find out what works for her. how one reviews their nursing information will vary from person to person. while some like to do questions, others focus on content, others use study groups and others do a mix of all of these -- or come up with their own game plan. regardless, you must have a "game" plan as you prepare to take the nclex again.

cdb6c...i would even suggest you review these websites that i found in other posts/threads:

  • www.flashcardexchange.com - create your own online flashcards to study with (no need to handwrite on index cards). i used this website as i prepared for my nclex. i used it to make flashcards for all lab values, signs/symptoms, and subject matter i felt week in (ex. stages of labor, infection control, stages of growth and development).
  • www.quizlet.com - do a search of "nursing", "nclex" or by topic (your area of weakness)

sunflowerross - great, humorous post!!! :yeah: :yeah::yeah:
