Nurse with scoliosis
My daughter who is 18 lives with a 36 degree short-thoracic scoliosis. She was diagnosed a little over 3 years ago. I was freaking out cause I didn't really understand it. I received some education about it and found it's not as bad as it sounds--for her anyway. She is just under the curvature degee what she would qualify for a brace or surgery. She went to physical therapy to learn specific exercises that help with the back pain she started to get. She does the exercises and has no pain now. She can live a normal life. I hope that you can find some peace with having this and hope you realize you shouldn't have many limitations. Go see your PCP to find out what your options are. Are you in pain--is this why you are worried!?! If you do exercises/stretches on your back muscles you should be in great shape! MANY people live with scoliosis--I just found out many people in my family have it and I never knew. It's more common than you may think! You will be an awesome nurse!!! Go get 'em!!! :w00t:

Nurses struggling with mental illness
I have been an LPN for a year now. I've never been diagnosed with a mental illness; however, I know there is something wrong with me. I'm one of the most 'normal' in my family so I've never felt the need to get help with my issues up until now. "What is normal anyway--right!!!" I come from a severely paranoid schizophrenic mother; as well, my sister has the same diagnosis. My grandfather, aunt, uncle as well as cousins have mental illnesses; such as: anxiety, depression, hoarding, bipolar, etc. I have anxiety, obsessive tendencies and problems focusing and organizing my time and staying on task. My mind wonders, I have to read things out-loud or I won't be able to comprehend what I read. I have to talk out-loud and write everything down on my 'brains-sheet' to even get through my day. I have to stand sometimes when I work cause I get too antsy when doing my paperwork. My mind feels like it's moving too fast and I just can't stay focused. I've been on-call at work since I started and have worked quite a-bit considering. I recently accepted a scheduled position - I am terrified. I start Thursday. :nuke: I'm regretting accepting this position--I want to back-out and stay on-call. I always said 'yes' when they asked; however, I like the control of being able to say 'yes' or 'no' about working. Now I will have a set schedule and I feel so anxious about it. I want to be happy with being a nurse, I don't want to feel anxious about it. I feel it would be best for me to stay on-call. I shouldn't have accepted the day position--I have regrets. My husband, I feel would prefer me be on a set schedule for guaranteed hours--now I feel anxious about THAT! When growing up, I always was always in 'special' classes for slow kids. Such classes/attention my son was in when he was younger. My son now 16 was 'diagnosed' with ADHD when he was in kindergarten. I was watching Good Morning America the other day, they were talking about Adult ADD--a light bulb when on. I don't know if that is what I have, but the program made me wake-up to the idea. Hmmmm I thought. Life in nursing school was hard, exams were the worse; NCLEX was a NIGHTMARE!!! I finally had to take meds on my third try--finally passed! I have a lot of passion for mental illness and those who live with it everyday. I want to learn more about it. I want to learn more about my own. I need to. I could write a book on my life from my growing up years to now -- that could be a therapy in itself! :smiley_aa Happy New Year to you!

Maybe I should rethink career choice :(
I think it took courage to write from your heart -- thanks for posting. I can really relate. I was CNA for 12 years (and LOVED it) and have been an LPN for a year now. I have the same kind of feelings you do. I love being a nurse; however, my mind doesn't hold some info I wish I could remember I learned in school. I'm scared that something is going to happen, or I dread what COULD happen. Everyone tells me I'm a good nurse, but I'm always feeling not sure of myself. I have a hard time on 'days' with alot going on--I feel more relaxed on 'noc-shift' -- like I have more time to organize myself. There is a lot of mental illness in my family, I feel like I have too much anxiety--I need to see if there is something wrong with me. I haven't been very supportive of your message, just wanted to say you're not alone. You can't possibly know the answers to everything in nursing, it takes experience and you will get that as years go by. Some people retain information better than others--that's how I get thru my day telling myself that! :chair: I feel ya!

I just took the NCLEX-RN today and i am freaking out!!!
I feel your frustration kt424 & Kermie!!!!! I also took my NCLEX yesterday--I too am FREAKING OUT!!! According the PV trick I passed too, but we'll see. I feel numb--I'm laying in my bed and I don't wanna do anything. You're NOT ALONE!!! Why isn't there a way to let us know sooner, waiting is dreadful--I wouldn't wish this feeling on my patients!!!!!!!!! (Does the PV trick work the very next day or is that too soon!?! The status says, sent successfully).

Pearsonvue Trick Is this TRUE? Does it work every time?
I took my NCLEX yesterday and finish around 4:30pm. It's 4:10p Pacific time the next day-- is it too soon to to that trick!? I just tried it, it does say 'status delivery successful' and I too go the message everyone is talking about: (Our records indicate that you've recently scheduled this exam. Another registration cannot be made at this time). This is my third test, the first two I took the WHOLE TIME and EVERY Question--and failed!!! This time the test quit after 90 and it only took me an hour & a half!!! Usually Oregon posts the next day on it's verification site that you are a nurse, but I'm still not seeing my name on their verification site, it's freaking me out. I can't function, I just want to cry, throw-up or something!! I feel NUMB~ The trick makes me feel just slightly better, but who knows right!?!??? Yikes!

Failed NCLEX RN
do you have test anxiety!?! i took my exam yesterday and was amazed how calm i was compared to the previous two times i failed. the first two times i took it, it took me the full amount of time and every single question!!!!!!! i almost blacked out, both times; it was an awful experience to say the least. :barf02:i never wanted to go back...ever!! you are not alone!!!!!!!!!!!! (that blue-smiley is about what i felt like the first two times i took the test--lmao!!! who comes up with this things!?!!!!!) this time i studied more than ever, took 40mg of prescribed propranolol from my doctor for test anxiety and was out-of-there in less than 1.5 hours with only 90 questions. i'm hoping for a good out-come, now i wait for the results! (i took it yesterday). hoping third time's a charm like 'they' say--finger's crossed!!! i gave myself more than the suggested time of 45 days to wait to re-test--don't rush it!! take your time and study study study those practice questions!!! finally, i recommend studying nclex test-taking strategies--this really helped in answering questions along with my knowledge. kaplan has a great book for this. there were a lot of questions i was like, "what the heck is that?" the test-taking-strategies really helped in those types of questions. you can't possibly know everything--right!?! you will do it, i know you can--just keep on studying those practice questions!!! just remember, the way this exam is designed isn't for everyone--regardless if you're a 'good' student or not, some people just have to work a little harder than others. my bestfriend who took hers a few years ago, didn't even have time to study juggling work & family--she passed with flying colors the first time!!! :anbd: not me--i'm hoping 3rd time's a charm (nervous laugh) practice questions, practice questions, practice questions!!! study tips to check out http://passnclex.drexel.edu/study_resources.aspx
