HEY BRiAN!!
My advice to those looking at going into the field (lina)...
Sounds familiar?? Of course, silly. I will take this in ever so deeply. Thank you. I'm studying HARD this year!! I need to up my ACT scores. I knew that biology and other science classes were a "biggie" in nursing. I never really excelled in science, but after I've decided to become a nurse, I am doing so much better. Ummm...I pm you earlier, but I wasn't able to finish it. The bell rang for lunch. Well I'd like to give you a GREAT welcome here even though you were here long before I have...and thanks.

P.S.
I'm actually planning on volunteering at a nursing home as soon as I get to drive!! Thanks!!

Hello, all.
I've been lurking on this bb for probably about a year and a half now. I never felt like I deserved the honor of posting until now. I just started nursing school a few weeks ago. I'm loving it. (and it is hard. thank goodness for that)
I felt the need to post due to the influx of newbies here. (not namin names) There needed to be some balance. I could almost hear the eyerolling on some of the posts lately. I can assure you all that we aren't all like that. (I'm sure you know what I mean by "that")
My background? I am an Air Force brat and have lived around. I've spent the past eleven years managing a small family shop here in Austin.
Why nursing? There are a few fields of work that exemplify the best in humans such as teaching, social work, farming, and nursing, obviously. My pull has always been to health care. I instinctively want to make others feel better (juice veggies for sick friends, etc.) Nursing just seemed like an obvious choice. Plus, I have a friend who is a nurse. She was a huge influence on the decision.
Oh, and I happen to be male. I look forward to contributing to the death of old stereotypes.
My advice to those looking at going into the field (lina). Pay attention in biology and algebra, especially. Do well in school overall. And most importantly, at this stage in your life LISTEN. The first part of the nursing process is ASSESSMENT. Look up this word in the dictionary and live it. Do your research. Volunteer in a nursing home.
Thanks for reading my wordy introduction. I look forward to future dialogs.
