Angry Nurse here!

Nurses Relations

Last night a float pool tech ate my lunch and threw away my tupperware containers when he was done. I didn't know about it until it was too late, but I had homemade soup, yogurt, homemade cookies, and a drink tied in a bag in the work fridge. His excuse " there was no name on it". Now I did not catch him or see him personally, if I did I probably would have been fired. I was that mad. I am pregnant, and the cafeteria was closed. A coworker saw him eating it and the charge nurse questioned him. I heard today he does this on every floor he goes to. Don't you think this should be a fireable offense? I mean it is stealing right? He did not seem bothered at all, just said sorry didn't know it was yours. I am livid.

1. Who does that?

2. How could anyone think it is ok?

3. What if it was old?

4. Who does that?

5. It does not matter whose name is on the bag, if you did not bring it, then it is not yours.

It is stealing, and he sucks. You should report it, even file a complaint with security. I read once of a person who made a sandwich filled with human hair as a booby trap for a frequent offender, it worked!

I'm sorry, especially since you are pregnant, and let me tell you. I went a few times without eating during one pregnancy, and I never did it again. I went into work. I nearly fainted. Next thing you know, people were getting me juice and sticking my finger for BG. Capillary Glucose was 40. I mean I was beyond shaking and everything was spinning, and I couldn't understand what people were saying to me. I NEVER SKIPPED EATING WHILE PREGNANT AFTER THAT.

Listen, some people are just totally ignorant SOBs. If we could all wave a wand and make them good, considerate people. . .well. . .if only. . .

Meanwhile get some of those high protein with extra carb snack bars, some applies, and various drinks, and stuff them in your backpack, carry tote, or whatever you use that is in your locker. That way you have back-up.

Next mark your lunch and try to hide it in the fridge the best you can.

If all else fails, get a lunch case and those frozen plastic blocks and keep it in your locker. Short of putting the fridge under video surveillance or some kind of lock on your lunch, what are you gonna do?

I had someone at work steal a $200 cardiology stethoscope from me, change the engraved diaphragm, and basically implied I'm nuts for questioning him about his "new" scope. I really couldn't prove anything, so I had to let it go. It was an intern by the way. I guess he made it through the rest of his residency with a nice, free, scope. Oh well.

People shouldn't mess me hungry pregnant women though. . . :) Look out for you and your little one!

I really wish you were kidding about this, but I'm guessing you aren't. How lovely! He might have gotten away with it, but I'd have made his life living hell, and I would have made sure that every other nurse did, too. How about q 30 minute I&O updates all night long? Every night. Until he gave it back. JERK!

One of our now-retired OBs was notorious for stealing food from the nurses and other doctors. In L&D we sort of had to put up with it (I know, I know, but it's the South, and doctors are like God here). In the nursery, they put padlocks on their cabinets and finally just put a keypad lock on their breakroom door. Our breakroom was open season. If you were actually in there at the time, he'd ask if he could have some of your food, but if you weren't he'd just eat it. The man must have had an iron gut, I've seen him eat things a dog would pass by. I've seen him pull very old pizza, in a box, out of the garbage and eat it. And he lived literally within sight of the hospital and had a live-in cook/housekeeper. And if he didn't want to go home, the main doctors' lounge in the hospital was always stocked with food.

Oh man, if someone had done that when I was pregnant, tbere would not have been a pretty ending...

I'm sorry, OP, that someone treated you like that.

This just annoys the heck outta me!! I would have called security on him, notified his manager and mine, including the patient care supervisor. Even if they did not do anything to him, he would at least know not to mess with food that isn't his on my unit. He would also have paid restitution on my food because I would not have gone without food...

I would hang a sign:

"To the nurse that ate my soup yesterday: Hope you enjoyed it, and the C. diff bacteria that I am currently fighting off."

:roflmao:....my computer is now wearing afternoon tea!!!!

I wrote an email to my boss about it, cc'd HR, the float pool supervisor, and the offender. I said it was theft and I would like to be paid back for the cost of the food and the tupperware and that I think that stealing from each other should not be tolerated because it indicates a serious ethical flaw and puts the patients and their belongings at risk. I got no response. Nothing yet anyway. I am about to drag my tired, sore, pregnant behind to work right now. I have some instant oatmeal to put in my locker. I also got some crackers and peanut butter. I totally would booby trap a lunch on him, but he is float pool so I never know when I will see him. I can't wait until the next time he is MY tech for the night. I promise eating someones lunch will be the least of his worries.

wow it shouldnt matter whether there was a name on it or not, it clearly wasnt his and if i were u, i wouldgo to his supervisor or yours.
